In the wake of the Gen-G protests, not only were private and government buildings set on fire and vandalized, but the structures of banks and financial institutions were also damaged.
52 branches of banks and financial institutions and 73 extension counters 100 ATMs have been vandalized and set on fire. At this time, many people are curious, what happens if the money stored in the locker by the customer who has taken the locker service provided by the bank is burnt, lost or damaged in such incidents? We have prepared five questions and answers by asking representatives of Rashtra Bank and banks providing locker services to explain this topic.
1) How safe is the money kept in the bank locker?
The customer keeps the money in the locker by paying a certain fee in the belief that there will be more security in the bank than in his home. So it cannot be said that it is not safe . Banks have a high level of security, so the chances of theft and robbery are generally low . However, it does not mean that there is no theft, robbery, fire or destruction. But in such cases, the bank is not responsible if the money in the locker is lost or damaged. Because the bank has given the locker key to the customer. The bank does not have the details of the money kept by the customer in the locker. But in case of theft or robbery due to the negligence of the bank or if it is confirmed that the property has been stolen or destroyed due to any other reason, the bank is responsible . Otherwise, the bank is not responsible if the money kept in the locker is stolen, damaged or destroyed due to natural disasters, riots, robbery, fire or any other reason.
2) If the locker in the bank is stolen or burned or destroyed for any reason, is there a provision for compensation?
There is no provision for compensation. But saying this, the lockers are not completely safe. Because banks have made lockers that are not easily destroyed by sun, water and fire. The National Bank also regulates such things while operating locker services. However, if the money in the locker is damaged due to natural disasters, fire, robbery, etc., the bank does not get compensation.
3) Is the money kept in the locker insured?
Money kept in a bank locker is not insured. Therefore, the bank does not have the details of what and how many items are kept in the locker. There is an agreement between the bank and the customer to use the locker. In such an agreement, it should be declared that items prohibited by law, such as: exceeding the limit of cash and foreign currency, guns and their bullets, etc., will not be kept in the locker. Therefore, even if someone is found to have kept materials prohibited by law in the locker, the respective customer should be responsible.
4) What is the responsibility of the bank about the goods in the locker?
Bank's responsibility is to provide lockers that are strong and cannot be destroyed by fire and water. Along with this, it is also the bank's responsibility to manage the proper security of the locker. The bank should also make arrangements such as installing CCTV for security before operating the lockers, and installing an alarm system to give notice before theft and fire. Such an alarm system must have a system that can transmit information to the chief security officer of the concerned bank and financial institution.
5) What are the things that customers should know about locker services? Before availing the
locker facility, the customer needs to know many things . First of all, the customer should carefully study the contract with the bank. As there are many things mentioned in the contract, including the instructions of the National Bank regarding locker security, the security arrangement, it should be studied well before using the locker. Another thing is the additional service offered by Locker Suvidha Bank to its customers. So in the contract it is mentioned that the client will keep my money in your bank locker, I will also pay a fee for providing me a place . Therefore, the bank does not take any responsibility unless the material in the locker is stolen or looted by the bank's employees, or is damaged due to the weakness of another bank. All responsibility lies with the customer .
