Congress MP Ishwari Neupane has filed nominations for the chairmanship of the State Order and Good Governance Committee. Neupane registered her candidacy at the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
Neupane had resigned as the chairman of the parliamentary hearing committee to become the chairman of the State Arrangements Committee some time ago. Neupane went to the parliament secretariat along with outgoing Speaker Ramhari Khatiwada and UML MP Krishna Gopal Shrestha to register their candidacy. Time is set for
nominations today from 1 pm to 4 pm . However, due to being part of the ruling coalition, the main opposition Maoists have decided not to run for office.
If other parliamentarians do not register their candidacy, he will be elected chairman unanimously. The hearing committee, which is a joint committee of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly, now has to choose a new chairman.
Ramhari Khatiwada had resigned earlier in the cooling period dispute. Party chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba held a meeting in the morning and put forward Neupane as both the committees under the Congress had to be made chairpersons.
