The conflict between Resham Chaudhary and Ranjita Shrestha and the journey of the National Liberation Party (Naupa) to Vigraha has become the latest example of the extent to which a couple can fight because of the desire for political position and power. There is a saying that 'husband-wife quarrel is a fire of straw'. But politics is different. Resham couple's discord has become an exception. Naupa, which emerged from the heat of the Tharuhat movement, has now reached a state of disarray due to the conflict between the couple.

Many non-political events came to the surface in the political life of Naupa, who lost the opportunity to become the Chief Minister of the Far West, the representative of the Tharu community in federalism due to the animosity between the Resham couple. Many series of actions were repeated from one side to the other. However, now Resham has removed Mrs. Ranjita from the party chairperson and appointed her father as the chairperson. Ranjita is also planning to strongly counter it .

Naupa's rise and public support

Tharu community had high sympathy for silk while in prison. He planned to transform that sympathy into a political opportunity. Targeting the votes of Terai districts including Kailali Kanchanpur where there is a majority Tharu community, Resham had started the plan to build a party from prison. 

According to the same plan, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Ranjita, it was registered in the Naupa Election Commission on 19th January 2078. In the elections held within 6 months of the formation of the party, Naupa won enthusiastically in the House of Representatives, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Pradesh Assembly. A significant victory was also achieved at the local level.

Nowpa is in a decisive situation in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. In the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, where there is no clear majority of any party, 7 civil liberties became MPs. 4 MPs were elected in Lumbini and one in Madhesh. In the Far West, except in the case of Congress-UML or Congress-Maoist unity, Naupa has become indispensable for government formation. As the Tharu community became more and more rounded, their enthusiasm was increasing . Out of 13 local levels of Kailali, Naupa won 99 people's representatives with leadership in four.

Ranjita 'bypassed': the seed of idols

According to a Tharu leader who was watching Naupa, the party was going well until Resham was in jail. Even though she was the president, Ranjita used to make all the decisions of the party under the guidance and advice of her husband Resham, who was in jail. At that time, the Naupa party line had moved ahead with the demand for the release of silk as a one-point agenda. 

Meanwhile, Resham, who was found guilty by the court in the Tikapur incident, was released on the occasion of Republic Day on 080 June 15 with amnesty from President Ramchandra Poudel. After that, a rift began to arise between him and his wife Ranjita, who was the party president, over the issue of 'power exercise'. From the activities and decisions of the Silk Party, Ranjita was 'sidelined' and started to practice moving forward alone. Ranjita did not understand that . 

'Resham started running the party in his own way . But Ranjita became angry because even though she was the president, she did not have any advice and decisions were being made," Krishnaraj Sarvahari, a writer and journalist who is closely monitoring the events of Naupa, says, "Resham's bypassing Ranjita became the seed of conflict."       

Meanwhile, on 26-27th of January 2008, the first national convention took place in Tikapur of Kailali like an indelible flower for Resham-Ranjita. From that convention, without Ranjita's consent, Resham himself became the president. Ranjita wanted her continuation as the president but Resham was the only one to succeed. Dissatisfied, she left Tikapur and went to Kathmandu in the middle of the convention. In the days that followed, the party itself began to see a clash between Resham and Ranjita.

Resham was elected president from the Tikapur Congress. But the Ranjita party filed a case in the Election Commission regarding his legitimacy. On the said issue, the commission declared the convention illegal on 24th February 2008 and revived the old committee chaired by Ranjita. 

After that, the distance between Resham and Ranjita got deeper and deeper . The confrontation became fierce. Party workers were divided into two groups. Husband and wife are not only face to face politically, but they have reached the level of political completion of each other. 

How long did the Election Commission reject the statement that Resham Chaudhary was the chairman and after recognizing the old working committee with Ranjita Shrestha as the chairman, filed a case in the Supreme Court demanding that the decision of the Resham Party Commission should be annulled and that he should be retained as the chairman. 

In the case where Ranjita was made an opponent, Ranjita claimed that Resham was not qualified to be the president or even a member of the party.

"Let alone the matter of being elected as the central president from the convention, there is no situation in which he will be able to participate in the convention after getting organized membership," Ranjita said in response that the commission's decision should be upheld. After committing the crime, the incapacity created during the punishment of the person remains the same . In the Tikapur incident, it has been decided by the court that Resham Chaudhary killed himself in an inhuman, cruel and ruthless manner against the expectations of civilized society and human awareness.

During that time, she mentioned that the case against the President's decision to waive the amnesty is also pending in the Supreme Court and the President's amnesty has only relieved Resham from being imprisoned. Not only that, during the reply, Ranjita claimed that killing of children by the police is moral depravity and such persons cannot be given membership according to the Act on political parties and the constitution of the party . In a written reply, she said, "It will be a mockery of the justice system as a whole if the person involved in the murder, which attracts moral guilt, is returned to his old position after pardoning." 

The confrontation between husband and wife is not limited to that. During the meeting of the central committee held at the central office in Anamnagar, Kathmandu on Monday 19th Chaitra, there was an incident of hand-wringing between the workers of the Resham-Ranjita group. Due to the couple's confrontation, the parliamentarians of Naupa in Far West repeatedly repeated their unparliamentary activities . MPs of Naupa are often divided in the decisive mode of the provincial government.

After the Congress-Maoist, Unified Socialist alliance collapsed and the UML-Maoist alliance was formed, the Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah was in the minority after the Maoists and CPN-S withdrew their support. Even though the Maoists and Samajwadi left, the Congress reached the level of maintaining the government under its own leadership or giving a citizen the Chief Minister when all the MPs of Naupa who were in the government were united. But civil emancipation could not be one-and-done . Five of them stood for Resham and two stood for Ranjita . That's why the Shah government fell. 

Naupa parliamentarians were divided into two groups regarding whether to support the Shah-led government or not. Resham Party was in the position of supporting the Shah government led by the Congress, while Ranjita's position was that it would not do so under any circumstances . At the same time, President Ranjita took action against the leaders of the party, including Resham Party MP Ghanshyam Chaudhary, Indira Giri. 

In the following days, Naupa was caught in the middle of internal conflict regarding the formation of the Sudurpaschim Province government. At that time, there was a majority of silk pro-resham MPs in the state assembly . Out of 7 people from Naupa, Ghanshyam Choudhary, Khushi Lal Dagaura, Laxman Kishore Choudhary, Indira Giri and Rameshwar Choudhary, five were open in favor of silk . Kailash Chaudhary and Tika Thapa stood by Ranjita's side at that time . During that time, Speaker Ranjita launched several actions against MPs from the other side. In a series of actions, on 21st of Chaitra, she sent a letter to proportional MP Indira Giri, who is also the State Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, and was recalled by the State Assembly member. Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari, on 26 Chait 080, put the notice in the Provincial Assembly that Giri had been sent back as per the party's recommendation, and Giri's MP position was lost. 

However, after the Supreme Court issued an interim order not to implement the decision of the Supreme Court judge Prakashman Singh Raut to dismiss MP Giri on 2 Baisakh 081, Giri's position as MP was restored. 

Speaker Ranjita sent a letter to the speaker appointing Kailash Chaudhary as the leader of the parliamentary party and removing Ghanshyam Chaudhary as the leader of the parliamentary party on 25th March 2080. But Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari did not recognize the letter as he was in favor of Buhamat MP Ghanshyam.  Resham-Ranjita's conflict had started to reach so much depth that only formal party division seemed to be left. 

Chief Minister lost opportunity 

After the resignation of Kamal Bahadur Shah, during the formation of the new government, there was another outcry in civil liberties. Two MPs of Civil Liberation Party, Lakshman Kishore Chaudhary from Resham Party and Kailash Chaudhary from Ranjita Party submitted claims for Chief Minister separately. Lakshman Kishore Chaudhary, who submitted a claim from the Ghanshyam Chaudhary group recognized by the State Assembly Secretariat as the leader of the parliamentary party, was supported by the Congress, the United Socialists and the RPP, which was a clear majority. But Kailash, who was made the leader of the parliamentary party by President Ranjitha, was supported by the Maoist Center, UML and independent MPs. 

Saying that the claims of two people from the same party have been submitted, the provincial chief once again called to submit the claims to the Chief Minister saying that both claims are inadmissible. At that time, if Ranjitha had not pushed Kailash forward, Lakshman Kishore would have automatically become the Chief Minister. 

The integrated socialists took advantage of the second call for civil liberties. After his party got the Chief Minister, the leader of the United Communist Parliamentary Party, Galg Bahadur Sodari UML, Maoist Center,  He was appointed as the Chief Minister with the support of two MPs and one independent MP from the National Liberation Party Ranjita party. Civil immunities have been lost . 

'I couldn't remind you dear' 

Naupa's guardian Resham Chaudhary, caught in the midst of internal disputes, wrote a long Facebook status for Mrs. Ranjita on Wednesday morning, 30th of March 2018. At that time, President Ranjita was in the position of supporting Pushpa Kamal Dahal's coalition government in the Sangh and the corresponding provincial government. But Resham was of the position that he should not support the Dahal coalition government. At the same time, he wrote a Facebook status. 

'I couldn't remind you dear . He can't even cut the throat of the child he gave birth to,'' he wrote. This is what worries me. Because of you and me, people's hearts will not be hurt . Those who have hurt our hearts today are those who love us from the heart . Those who say vote for me now, vote for me now are only going to drown us . If you believe in me, let's not vote for anyone.''

Not only that, Resham also hinted that Ranjita, who went against his opinion, could be prosecuted. "Remember, those who don't accept the decision of the Central Committee should be punished and face the punishment," he said. If you are thinking this, you are delusional.'

When Ranjita was removed from the parliamentary party leader

Ranjita was removed from the parliamentary party leader of the Civil Liberation Party, which has four MPs in the House of Representatives. Ganga Choudhary Dagaura, Lalveer Choudhary and Arun Choudhary were unanimously selected on 16 June 081, while three MPs were on the other side and Ranjita was removed from the party leader and Ganga Choudhary was selected.   

All parliamentary ministers of far west 

In the history of Nepal's parliamentary and power politics, Naupa has become such a party, which all the members of the Far West Provincial Assembly succeeded in reaching the ministerial position in a short period of time.  NAUPA President Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary became Minister of Land Reforms, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation in Pushpa Kamal Dahal's cabinet. Currently, another MP in KP Sharma Oli's cabinet, Arun Chaudhary, has become the Minister of State for Tourism and Culture.

There is a situation where no political party has been able to get a clear majority in the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. In this big  Due to the change of alliance between the parties (except for the case of NECA and UML being united), Naupa became indispensable for the formation of the government.   

In the Far West, the door to power was opened to the parliamentarians of the Civil Liberation Party due to the parliamentary turmoil during the first tenure of Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah. Naupa, who helped UML parliamentary party leader Rajendrasinh Rawal to submit his claim for Chief Ministership, did not receive a vote of confidence and Rawal's post of Chief Minister could not be cut for 30 days. 

After the fall of Rawal's government, Kamal Bahadur Shah, the leader of the Congress parliamentary party as the largest party in the state assembly, was appointed as the chief minister. Civil Liberation Party decided to give vote of confidence to Shah. Civil Liberation Party's journey to power began with the vote of confidence given to Chief Minister Shah.

Chief Minister Shah appointed Rameshwar Chaudhary as the Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Urban Affairs from Naup on 17th July 2080 and Kailash Chaudhary as the Minister of State in the same ministry.  Five MPs are in favor of silk and two  stood in favor of Ranjita . MPs Kailash Choudhary and Tika Thapa stood for Ranjita, while Ghanshyam Choudhary, Rameshwar Choudhary, Laxmankishore Choudhary, Khushiram Dagaura Tharu and Indira Giri stood for Resham . In this way, when the parliamentarians stood in two categories, they all got a chance to climb the ladder of power .

After the power alliance of Congress-Maoist Center changed, the Maoist Center withdrew its support to Chief Minister Shah on 23rd of March 2008 and he was in the minority. Naupa was in internal confusion . Ghanshyam Chowdhury, who is also the leader of the parliamentary party, and the majority group of MPs stood in favor of silk. Who continued to support Chief Minister Shah . On the other hand, under the direction of President Ranjita, two MPs said that they continued to try to topple the Shah-led government anyway. 

MPs Ghanshyam Choudhary, Khushiram Dagaura Tharu and Indira Giri got the opportunity to become ministers on 25th of February 080 for standing up for Resham and implementing his instructions. Apart from Tika Thapa of Civil Liberation Party, 6 people became ministers in the government led by Chief Minister Shah. Nowa MP Tika Thapa was the only one who could not participate in the government.

081 On May 6, he also got an opportunity to become a minister in the government led by the leader of the CPN Unified Socialist Parliamentary Party, Dilig Sodari. He was appointed by the Chief Minister Sodari as Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives on 18 Baisakh. Along with that, all the seven parliamentarians of civil liberties in Far West got the opportunity to become ministers in a short time . In Lumbini Province, MP Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary became a minister several times. ``Naupa satta yatra was very crowded . Decreasing the emphasis of power has brought a rift between the founders of the party, Resham and Ranjita, even though they are husband and wife,'  Sarvahari says that the party has reached a state of decline after the rise of greedy sinners. On the other hand, two people got involved in a controversial case of financial accounting while being a minister in the Far West.  Lakshman Kishore Choudhary, who was the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment from Naupa, was forced to resign on 16th Chait 081 after the audio of him planning economic manipulations in collusion with forest mafias was released. 

After that, Naupa sent Rameshwar Choudhary as a minister in the said ministry amid internal conflicts. But Minister Rameshwar also got involved in the controversy. Chief Minister Shah instructed him to resign on 3rd of June 082 for irregularity in budget allocation . But Minister Choudhary challenged the Chief Minister to "remove him if he has the strength" not to resign. Finally, Chief Minister Shah dismissed him on June 19.

Naupa-Janmaat unity

Janmaat party led by CK Raut and Naupa were preparing for a unity declaration meeting on 082 Baisakh 17. However, on the same day, after the Naupa patron Resham Chaudhary was arrested from the party unity venue, the declaration of unity was broken.

However, according to some leaders, Naupa President Shrestha was not so positive about unity from the beginning. "He (Ranjita) was not satisfied from the inside that the co-chairman would be a roleless post," said a leader close to Ranjita. Preparations were made to declare unity between the working groups of the two parties pending the finalization of the distribution of office bearers and the central working committee. 

The arrest and release of Naupa's guardian Resham Chaudhary has not even had a dialogue between the top leaders of the two parties regarding unity . "I don't think there will be unity before the 084 elections," said Resham Chaudhary.

Ranjita ousted, Lalveer president

The power struggle between Resham-Ranjita couple in Naupa, which started in the third week of December 080 (Tikapur convention), finally ended on 15th July 082, when Resham Chaudhary, the party's founding leader, removed Ranjita Shrestha, who was the president of the party, from being the party president without even being an ordinary member of the party.
