The government is going to take 2.8 billion yen (2.61 billion Nepalese rupees) from Japan to build the BP highway that was destroyed by floods a year ago. The cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to take grant aid from Japan to build the Sindhuli section of BP highway which was destroyed by flood.
The contract has been signed for the 25 km section of the BP highway which was damaged by the flood in October 2081 and the work has been started. A two-lane road is going to be constructed on the 30.5 km stretch from Bhakundebensi to Nepalthok which has been damaged by the flood. Now three packages have been made including two towards Kavre and one towards Sindhuli.
Both contracts were signed last June and the road department said that the work should be completed within two years from the date of signing the contract. The department called for the contract only for the other section that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will work on the 5 km section of this highway. After the
, JICA is ready to build a 3.2 km road from Pipley to Barkhekhola, which section is currently undergoing final survey work through JICA. The section is being built with the help of the Japanese government.
