82 flights a day at Simkot airport

Ships and helicopters ply to ferry Indian tourists to Kailash Mansarovar via Humla. On Friday, about 700 pilgrims went to Mansarovar-Kailash via Hilsa in Humla, while on Saturday and Sunday, about 600 pilgrims reached Simkot in Humla.

After the increase in the number of pilgrims, 20 flights of Tara, Sita and Summit Airlines have flown from Nepalgunj to Simkot Airport on Sunday. There were 51 flights on Saturday and 82 on Friday. 5 helicopters are also ready at Simkot airport. One helicopter is making up to 15 flights a day.

According to the District Police Office, 1,271 Indian pilgrims including 622 women and 649 men have visited Kailash Mansarovar in China till Friday. About 1,300 pilgrims have entered on Saturday and Sunday. 70 women and 79 men from other countries have reached Mansarovar. Due to Indian pilgrims, hoteliers, tour operators and porters are also busy.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which was closed since March 2077 due to the Corona epidemic, has started again. Two years ago, China did not open the entry permit to Mansarovar even after opening the Hilsa border crossing. "Due to Corona, the tourism business of Humla was stopped for almost four years," said tourism businessman Mim Lama, "now two hundred to one thousand pilgrims are coming to Humla every day." According to him, only six ships can be parked at the airport. "One air traffic controller is having to give permission for many flights," he said, "There is a problem in keeping passengers waiting in the narrow terminal building." Drinking water, toilets, WiFi are all problems.'

Kamal Gautam, manager of Cymric Airlines, said that after the increase in the number of Indian pilgrims, there is also a problem in helicopter management. "Because the condition of the road is not good, all the pilgrims try to go by helicopter, but only four people can go at a time," he said, "Even though the weather is changing, there was some difficulty in the flight." Some pilgrims travel 6 hours by car to reach Hilsa.

Vijay Lama, owner of Vijay Hotel in Simkot, said that up to 70 tourists are staying in his hotel every day. "All the hotel rooms have been booked for the next three weeks," he said, "After staying one night in Simkot, the pilgrims go to Mansarovar via Hilsa and after returning, they stay in Simkot for one more night."

After China banned the pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar due to the Corona epidemic, tourism businessmen had arranged Doordarshan from Lapcha in Namkha Rural Municipality of Nepali Bhoomi for some time. For some time, Indians visited Mansarovar through 'mountain flight'. During that time, 781 Indian pilgrims and 489 foreign tourists visited Mansarovar-Kailash from Lapcha, while 350 people took a mountain flight. Sange Lama, a tourism businessman, informed that the highest number of pilgrims from India's Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka have made 'package books' this year. He informed that as pilgrims take local products like walnuts, beans, hemp, etc., agricultural produce is also getting a price and a market. The hotelier has made a package of 2500 per passenger including one night stay and food for Indians.

Humla's tourism business, which has been closed for a long time due to the Corona epidemic, has just picked up pace, said Takdir Lama, vice chairman of Namkha Rural Municipality. "Now the hotels in Hilsa are full, because of the pilgrims, the local products have got a market," he said, "locals are working as porters and tourist guides." According to him, Simkot and Namkha Rural Municipality charge Rs 1,000 entry fee from tourists. 60 percent of that is collected for Simkot and 40 percent for Namkha Rural Municipality.

Mansarovar is a center of faith for Hindus and Buddhists. Every year Baisakh to Asoj is the time of Mansarovar-Kailash darshan. An Indian pilgrim says he is happy to come for Kailash Darshan after a long time. Kailash Patel, who came from Mumbai, said, "After a long wait, I got to see Mansarovar. It was a once-in-a-lifetime dream to see Kailash, it has been fulfilled." "The long-standing problem has been completed, and the love and welcome of the locals has also given us satisfaction," he said. According to Gupta, it is shorter and easier to travel through Hilsa than through Kerung.

Nepalgunj hotels are also full due to Indian pilgrims. About 600 tourists are staying in various hotels in Nepalgunj, tourism businessman Tenzing Norbu informed. According to him, big hotels in Nepalgunj have been booked for about three weeks. He informed that about 6 thousand pilgrims will come for Mansarovar darshan this year.

Indian pilgrims have been using the Hilsa route since 2006. After the earthquake of 2072, when the Tatopani crossing was closed, the number of people traveling to Mansarovar via Hilsa increased sharply. According to the data of district administration Humla, 18,000 Indian pilgrims visited Mansarovar during the period of almost 4 years until the corona epidemic. Chief District Officer Narayan Pandey informed that security arrangements have been strengthened for pilgrims.

Pilgrims returning from Tatopani

Pilgrims returning from Kailash Mansarovar have started entering Nepal through Tatopani after the route to China through Rasuwagadhi crossing was closed due to floods. Pilgrims who entered China at the beginning of June through the Rasuwagadhi crossing started using an alternative route after the Timure-Kerung road was cut off due to Tuesday's floods. According to the Tatopani Kodari Immigration Office, around 500 pilgrims have returned to Nepal till Saturday. Now more than 70 tourists are returning from Mansarovar every day. They initially returned by helicopter, but now they are going to Kathmandu by vehicle,'' said Jagat Bahadur Rai, head of the area police office Kodari.

Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchok Kiran Thapa informed that non-resident Indians with citizenship of America, Canada, Ireland, Malaysia and Singapore have returned from Tatopani.
