The 212th birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya, the first poet of Nepali literature, is being celebrated today by organizing various programs at different places in the country and abroad. Bhanubhakta made an important contribution to Nepali literature by presenting the emotional 'Ramayana', the biography of King Rama of Ayodhya, written in Sanskrit language.
The Ramayana written by him is still recited in the homes of Nepalis with a melodious rhythm. Prithvi Narayan Shah unified Nepal geographically and it is believed that Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta unified it through language, literature and culture.
It is said that Bhanubhakta, who was born in Chundiramgha village of Tanahun on 29th of June 1871, was inspired to compose Ramayana in Nepali because an ordinary grasshopper gave him an admonition that he should earn a name by doing good deeds after birth.
'Vadhushiksha' is another famous work of his. Similarly, there are works such as 'Questions', 'Bhaktamala', 'Ramgeeta', and other compositions. Aadikavi Acharya, who was jailed for failing to settle the account of Kumari Chowk, was a staunch opponent of procrastination and 'Bolivad' in the government office, and wrote in his poem against tomorrow - 'Boli Bholi Keteima Sab Ghar Bitigo Baksios Aaj Jholi'.
Bhanubhakta has a historical contribution in awakening Nepali ethnic unity, national identity and Nepali cultural awareness and strengthening national culture. As Bhanubhakta is a historical person, all Nepalis should respect him and critics are of the opinion that it is the main need of today to discuss and review the controversies that have arisen about his views.
Many dissertations have been written about Bhanubhakta from Tribhuvan University. On this occasion, it is said that there is a program of garlanding the statue of National Vibhuti Bhanubhakta in front of Ranipokhari in Kathmandu this morning and taking a city morning tour.
Adikavi Acharya celebrates Bhanu Jayanti by reciting Ramayana in Nepali language. On this occasion, organizations working in the fields of language, literature and culture are celebrating Bhanu Jayanti by holding various programs today.
Adikavi is a poet who wrote poems in Nepali language before Acharya. Knowledgeable Gyawali, a deputy professor of Tribhuvan University, who is studying and researching Bhanubhakta, says that it is justified to call Bhanubhakta as the original poet as he made a significant contribution to linguistic unity by making a text like Ramayana emotional in Nepali folklore. The Ramayana book is considered to have created a new era in the linguistic field.
Adikavi Acharya died in October 1925. Bhanubhakta's birth anniversary is also celebrated in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, Burma and other countries and places where there are many Nepali speakers.
