Bhojpur's Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality-2 Dhodelekhani was shocked by a gruesome murder incident at midnight on Saturday. That night was not normal for the locals, because the village lost a family.
30-year-old Rajendra Rai of Helaucha, Bhojpur Municipality-2 killed four members of his in-laws. Among the dead was his wife, 16-year-old Manisha Giri. They got married about 9 months ago. However, inter-caste love marriage was not acceptable in the eyes of society and family.
Rajendra was in his in-laws village for a few days to get his wife. He had arrived on Saturday with the determination to return with Manisha no matter what. The mother-in-law was in favor of not taking her daughter. The dispute between those who were to be taken and those who were not allowed to be taken gradually became violent. Koshi Province Police Chief DIG Ishwar Karki said, "According to the statement given by Rajendra, his father-in-law attacked him with a knife and then took that knife and killed all four people." After the murder, Rai himself called the police control and said, "I have killed a man, come to get me." He had deep injuries in three places on his stomach. In his statement to the police, he claimed that his in-laws had stabbed him before the mass murder.
Rai is being treated under police supervision at District Hospital Bhojpur. As the condition is serious, further treatment may be recommended elsewhere, the police said.
Rajendra Bhojpur is a construction worker living in a camp at the headquarters. Economically, he was in conflict with the Giri family after his love marriage. No one expected that the confrontation would take such a dangerous form. DIG Karki said, "Inter-caste marriage and subsequent family rejection seems to be the main reason for reaching a gruesome decision like murder."
