Jayadweep Kaur from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India came to Devdah and took the Chinese Level-4 exam. He came to Lumbini via Sunauli after a continuous 40-hour train journey because he would be accepted to work in a large Chinese-invested industry in Gujarat.

I arrived here after a day and a half journey." They can learn Chinese language in India. But there are very few Chinese language test centers and they cannot give exams in time.

Chinese language examination centers recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Chinese government are located in four places in Nepal. Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and LRI International School have examination centers in Kathmandu. Just outside the valley is Lumbini Buddhist University. There is a Chinese Language Test Center (HSK Test Center) at City Campus Devdah under Lumbini Buddhist University. The exam has been held in Devdah since April 2024. About 50 percent of those who come here for the exam are Indians.
The attraction of Indian students has increased due to low fees and regular examinations, said Kumar Khadka, associate professor of Chinese at Lumbini Buddhist University. Regular exams are held only in Mumbai, India. Elsewhere it is irregular. Seats are limited even in Mumbai,' he said, 'that's why Nepal's Lumbini is more preferred for Indians.'
HSK exam fee for non-native speakers in Lumbini is Rs 1,450 and Rs 1,550. In India, the same exam costs up to 5/7 thousand Indian rupees. Professor Khadka said that Indians are attracted here due to cheap fees and simple transportation facilities. Some Indian citizens even come to Lumbini to learn the language.
Lumbini has online application and fee payment facility for exams. The results are published within a month of the examination. The exam results can be downloaded digitally. "Hard copy" only needs to come to the university.
Exams are held in all months except one month during the Chinese New Year. The calendar for the whole year is published at the beginning. The exam question paper also comes online, the answer is sent online.
