Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal is requesting to end the growing international conflict by imbibing Buddhist teachings.
"Even when tension arose between India and Pakistan last week, we requested to maintain peace," he said, "After our request, the war between India and Pakistan stopped." He said that the importance of Buddhist education is still indispensable for individuals, families and countries. He said that since the creation of weapons of mass destruction in the world is dangerous, we should also be in favor of world peace to get rid of them.
When Prime Minister Oli saw the lack of a hall every year to celebrate the Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini, he criticized the fact that even though he had taken the initiative to build an international-level hall that could hold 5,000 people, no one would listen to his speech. His comment was that there is a hall where the audience can't hear anything.
Addressing the main ceremony held at Lumbini on Monday noon on the occasion of 2569th Buddha Jayanti, he insisted on ending the situation of having to guess what the speaker said, even though his efforts to build a hall of permanent nature since 2073 have been embodied. He instructed the Lumbini Development Fund to make the speech heard even by building an extra hall for one year.
The Prime Minister, who came to Rupandehi by ship on Monday morning, worshiped at Mayadevi Temple before the ceremony.
Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey said that Lumbini is committed to making Lumbini a center of spiritual studies and meditation in the world. 'We are ready to complete the Lumbini master plan,' he said, 'We are committed to implement the development plan of Lumbini as well as the wider Lumbini area.' He said that he will play a role in moving forward by increasing the sense of belonging of the locals towards Lumbini.
Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chetnarayan Acharya said that the importance of Buddhist philosophy is increasing day by day. 'Nowadays, it is necessary to make Buddhist education more widespread,' he said. Although Lumbini is the center of faith in the world, he emphasized that the Gautam Buddha International Airport should be operated regularly to bring tourists here. 'The Minister of Tourism and the Prime Minister had to play a role in running the airport,' he said.
Vice President of Lumbini Development Fund. Laharkyal Lama, remembering the holy day, said that he is trying to spread the message of Buddha around the world. He said that Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated to give a message about the end of killings and violence happening in the world. He demanded the government to make Buddha Jayanti even more widespread next year.
The United Nations resident representatives participating in the original ceremony, the ambassadors of China, India and Thailand for Nepal offered their best wishes. They said that Buddha's message is important to maintain peace in the present world. He also said that he will maintain the cooperation he has been doing for the development of Lumbini for years. He expressed concern about the growing instability at the international level as war only leads to destruction.
Buddha Jayanti is celebrated in Lumbini every year on the full moon day of Baisakh. This year Lumbini Development Fund is celebrating Buddha Jayanti by organizing various programs for three days. On the eve of Buddha Jayanti, Paritran was recited along with lamp lighting in Mayadevi temple on Sunday evening. In the event, various viharas in Lumbini performed prayers and meditation.
