RPP top leaders demonstrated inside the Singha Darbar on Sunday. The RPP organized a demonstration in Kathmandu with the aim of breaking the restricted area and making mass arrests. During that time, leaders including President Rajendra Lingden shouted slogans in favor of the monarchy with placards inside the Singha Darbar.
While leaving the parliamentary party office of the party, the leaders shouted slogans against the government.
The police arrested President Lingden along with Senior Vice President Wise Tamang, Spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi, President of Rashtriya Yuva Morcha Kailash Katuwal, Vice President Saroj Chhetri, President of National Democratic Oppressed Utthan Sangathan Amar Aryal and Kiran Duwal for breaking the prohibited area. They have been released on Sunday evening.
RPP MP Deepak Bahadur Singh, who reached the demonstration site after breaking out of the Singha Darbar, said that he had broken the forbidden area in the Singha Darbar while addressing the participants. RPP MP and Vice President Vikram Pandey opined that arresting a peaceful protest is unfair. "People are looking for change, our movement will progress gradually," Pandey said, "The government has arrested the peaceful movement." In an emergency meeting, the RPP said that this kind of attitude of the government is undemocratic, totalitarian and autocratic in character to suppress the opposition voice.
"The constitutional right to move freely, to engage in political activities and freedom of expression has been curtailed," said the statement issued by RPPA spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha, "RPPA will protest and counter in a more forceful manner in the coming days." Rana was arrested after the violent demonstration of royalists in Tinkune on Chait 15. Rana, who is suffering from gum cancer, was released from the police complex with the consent of the public prosecutor based on the need for further treatment, informed the Chief SSP Vishwa Adhikari of Kathmandu.
Rana was undergoing treatment in Mumbai, India. He was released for further treatment after a small lump was found on his gums and the doctor here suspected that there might be a possibility of cancer again. District Police Complex Kathmandu is investigating Rana for crimes against the state and organized crime.
'If we meet, the system will change now'
Rajendra Lingden, RPP President
We made a program to attract the attention of the government, the general public and the world community by performing mainly in prohibited areas. We have repeatedly said that we will have a peaceful protest in the restricted area. Our aim was to go close to the government and tell our story. Today's performance was meant to be a message rather than a numerical one. The program has been successful.
Did the government listen to the demand?
The government must have taken some message from our performance. The result will be known through discussion and conversation. Our case remains. There should be a judicial inquiry into the incident that happened on Chait 15 in Tinkune area of Kathmandu along with our cases. We also prioritized the demand for the release of our arrested leaders and others. Civil society will pay attention to it. We continue our programs.
After you met the former king on Saturday, the government issued a statement and warned of strict action against the law, why did you meet the former king?
This government and republic is so weak that I don't want to comment much about it. No one should be confused about this. Republic, secularism, federalism and now robbery is being done in the name of democracy, RPP is constantly against it. This is not a hidden topic. If we agree, this arrangement can be changed now. For this, it is not necessary to keep meeting the king, to keep a separate plot.
We have been avowedly against the republic for a long time. As I have said time and time again, protests are peaceful. We will gather 50,000 people in Kathmandu in a peaceful manner, and we will besiege Baluwatar, Singha Durbar, sit on a sit-in. But we don't do any kind of violent activities.
What will be the form of the upcoming movement?
We use the 'forum' both in parliament and on the street.
RPP is accused of protesting with demands outside the constitution? During the
movement, not everything can be done as the government says. I only said in the morning - walk only this way, speak only this much, do not speak this much, do not go above this meter. But the movement is not followed. But in this process we will not cause unrest and violence. We protest as civil disobedience.
Today we demonstrated civil disobedience at Sinhadbar. As far as the question of violation of the Constitution is concerned, we have many disagreements with the Constitution. Many of these systems are problematic factors. There are some provisions in the constitution, where you can criticize the constitution, you can stand against the constitution. In the constitution, all subjects except national integrity, sovereignty in the people are changeable.
