Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has mentioned that Nepal has achieved success in community-based nature conservation at the 16th International Conference on Biological Diversity (COP-16).
Minister Thakuri made this statement while addressing the 'Nature and Peace' session on Wednesday in the conference held in Kali city of Colombia.
On that occasion, Minister Thakuri also expressed his happiness that he could share Nepal's success. Minister Thakuri also held the opinion that wrong practices of humans harm nature and cause conflicts, so it should be stopped.
'Conflict, violence and unrest harm nature and people . We have to stop the conflicts arising from our practices,' he said, 'so I am happy to share Nepal's success in community-based conservation and its contribution to building socio-political peace.' While addressing the
and nature and peace session, he said that since Nepal is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, his message is still relevant.
As the Buddha said, make good use of nature, as a bee collects pollen from a flower, neither pollutes its beauty, nor diminishes its fragrance . This message of nature and peace is still relevant today," he said while adding to the speech, "It has addressed the basic causes of conflict: lack of resources and exclusion. Therefore, peace was possible in Nepal by promoting social justice and equality in the protection, use and management of resources.' In addition, he also stressed on the government's contribution to protect Nepal's biological diversity, to live in harmony with nature and peace.
Minister Thakuri went to Colombia on the 11th to participate in the COP-16 conference from November 10 to 15. The minister's secretariat has informed that he is scheduled to return home on the 17th.
