Police have sent 51-year-old Dev Kumar Nepali, the mayor of Baglung's Dhorpatan municipality, who was accused of embezzling 1.5 billion from cooperative savers, to Baglung via Kathmandu.

The Nepali, who has been absconding for about one and a half years, was arrested by the police in coordination with Interpol from New Delhi on Friday.

Spokesperson of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) SP Hobindra Bogti informed that he was brought to Kathmandu by plane and sent to Baglung for further investigation.

The founding president of Image Savings and Loan Cooperative and Vice-Chairman of the Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative in Pokhara is accused of misappropriating one billion 386 million 13 thousand 525 rupees.

According to SP Bogti, along with Mayor Nepali, 58-year-old Om Prasad Darzi of Burtibang, Baglung has also been arrested and sent to Baglung.

Nepali, who became the mayor of Dhorpatan in the 079 election, was found to have embezzled the savings as the chairman of the cooperative, and the savers filed a complaint against him. The fraud committed by the Nepalis came to the surface after the cooperative posted a notice saying that the business was closed suddenly on 7th May 2080 due to 'lack of liquidity'. President Nepali was out of touch with his wife since that time.

The police made 8 people, including Mayor Nepali, defendants, and the case is pending in the Baglung District Court for an offense under the Cooperative Act 2074.
