Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who came to New York to participate in the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, will have a "sideline" meeting with his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 5 pm local time on Sunday.

Although there has been homework for a long time for a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi on the "sideline", a positive message was received from the Indian side only on Friday.

The Nepali side took initiatives from various levels to hold a meeting between the two Prime Ministers. From Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba to the Nepalese representative to the United Nations in New York Lok Bahadur Thapa and the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi were also mobilized.

Prime Minister Oli had instructed Minister Rana to prepare for the 'sideline' meeting. Just a few hours before Oli landed in New York on Friday night, the Indian side sent a message that Modi is ready for bilateral meetings. "If there is nothing else, it is confirmed that there will be a meeting," said a foreign ministry official.

Indian Prime Minister Modi has come to Wilmington, USA on Friday to participate in the Quad meeting of four countries (America, India, Japan and Australia). He is going to come to New York from there. After Oli became the Prime Minister for the fourth time, he is going to have his first meeting with his Indian counterpart Modi. Earlier, a meeting was scheduled between them on the sidelines during the sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). But the conference scheduled to be held on August 18 and 19 was postponed due to new political upheavals in Thailand.

Oli started visiting foreign countries from India when he was the Prime Minister for the first and second time. Oli led the government for only three months after being appointed for the third time after becoming the Prime Minister for the second time. At that time he did not visit any country.

After this appointment, Oli's foreign visit has started from the United Nations General Assembly held in New York. Oli has not received an invitation for a formal visit from the Indian side this time. Oli said that during Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba's visit to India, Modi had been formally invited to visit Nepal.

Prime Minister Oli has arrived in New York leading a 22-member Nepalese delegation. According to Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to address the 'Summit of the Future', the high-level discussion of the 79th General Assembly, the high-level session on 'Antimicrobial Resistance' and the high-level session on 'Sea Level Rise'.

will address parliamentarians from different countries in New York on 'Financing the Future' in connection with the Paris Agreement. Prime Minister Oli will address the General Assembly on October 10. He will also meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
