Moktan's book 'Tamba Hrimthim' published

What you should know

The book 'Tamba Hrimthim', written by copper scholar Pasangdorje Lama Moktan, has been made public.

Moktan's new work was released at a program organized at the Nepal Academy of Sciences in Kamaladi, Kathmandu on Tuesday. The book discusses various topics related to Pengdorje, Dampu and Tamba. The chief guest of the program, anthropologist Muktsingh Thokar, mentioned that the Tamang classical language, philosophy and thoughts composed by ancestors are included in the book and suggested that topics related to Bonbo and Lama should also be added in the future. He said, "Among the important chapters of the Tamang community's marriage rituals, the 'Chartam' ritual and songs sung in various rituals are also discussed in the book." According to book reviewer Navin Moktan, the topics of Chartam performed at marriage, not performing any rituals without Sangsergame, and Hrui (Thar) are recorded in the book. Although the marriage rituals performed in Hrui are presented in a strong manner in the book, he commented that Tamba songs may be difficult for many to understand.

Reviewer and author Rabindra Tamang wrote in the book What is Tamba? The topic of its process and why is it necessary? was presented with a song and justification. He suggested that it would be better if the topic of surname creation was also included and some topics should be factual.

Linguist Amrit Yonjan said that it was a good thing that this book was published at a time when even two Tamang language books are not published in a year, even though the Tamang population is said to be more than 1.6 million. ‘This book has filled a void,’ he said, ‘The Tamang community should develop the habit of buying books.’

Political analyst Buddha Tshiring Moktan said that the book came as a result of Pasang Dorje Moktan’s continuous spiritual practice, stating that it is an ‘agency’ that will continue the Tamba Tamang Hrimthim unbrokenly.

Similarly, Tamang Ghedung Chairman Mohan Gole Tamang said that the Khas language has started to be used in the Chartam Sanskar, creating a situation where the ancestors do not understand it, and said that the contribution of the Moktans is important in preserving the Tamba tradition.

Author Moktan is also the Federal President of Nepal Tamang Tamba Ghedung, President of Tamba Gyan Adhyayan Pratishthan Nepal and Founding Vice President of Tamba Sangh Nepal. Moktan, who has been involved in research, study, investigation and practice for the past three decades, said that his experience of preserving the Tamba tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation amidst some compulsion, desire and compulsion has been included in the book.

Stating that Tamba, Bonbo, Lama and Ganba are indispensable for Tamang Hyul, he said that the book was prepared with the aim of contributing to the operation of society by establishing and continuing the Tamba organization.

Author Moktan said that although it was not possible to cover all the topics related to the Tamba level, the book was initially brought. He said that although the Tamba tradition is being preserved due to ‘Chawai Bon, Chawaisinghe Lama and Chawaisingh’, it has not yet moved forward in a clear direction. He expressed his commitment to further improve the book in the upcoming edition as per the suggestions of the reviewers as it is a common property of the Tamang community.

The book edited by author Khojraj Gole has been published by the Tamba Gyan Adhyayan Pratishthan Nepal. At the program, editor Gole said that the book is useful for all Tamangs. The price of this 224-page book with a cover by Kamal Yonjan is Rs 950.

Tamba is the main cultural heritage of the Tamang community, the guardian of history, the carrier of culture and the main source of songs and music. It is believed that without Tamba, the history of the Tamang community would remain incomplete and cultural work would not be complete.
