The Land Rights and Workers' Organization Nepal Jhapa branch has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister opposing the government's decision to abolish the Land Problems Resolution Commission.

On Friday, a large number of landless squatters, led by the organization, reached the District Administration Office in Jhapa and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal. They believe that the government's decision to abolish the Land Commission is completely anti-people, unconstitutional and discriminatory. They also stated that it is a brutal rule against the authorities of more than 1.2 million landless squatters, landless Dalits and citizens living in unorganized settlements across the country.

The government had decided to abolish the Land Problem Resolution Commission on 23 Asoj. After that, a writ was filed in the Supreme Court against the government's decision and the Supreme Court ordered to maintain the status quo without implementing the decision to abolish the Land Commission. However, the landless squatters who reached the district administration have claimed that the Supreme Court's order has not been implemented and the commission has not taken any action. There are more than 25,000 landless squatters in Jhapa alone and they have also warned that they will all unite and protest if their demands are not met.
