Why did Sunil Shah, a neighbor and childhood friend, dare to murder Saroj? The reason for the heinous murder is as horrifying as the events that took place during the crime. Are there other facts about this serious crime that are yet to be revealed in addition to the facts that have been made public? We have tried to explain this incident in five questions and answers.
How old is the relationship between the deceased Saroj and the alleged main accused Sunil?
Saroj and Sunil's houses in Shivasatakshi Rural Municipality-10 are opposite each other. They were friends for years, living barely a hundred meters apart. When Saroj, who lives in Kathmandu, came to the village, he would go for a walk with her. They would spend their days having fun. They grew up in the same village and have been friends since school. Why did Sunil get involved in the plan to kill Saroj? Sunil thought that Saroj, who came by car and never spent a few thousand rupees, was living a luxurious life. Sunil thought that Saroj had a lot of money because Saroj had told him a few times that he could buy gold cheaply. Understanding this, Sunil one day told Saroj that the gold looted during the Gen-G movement could be bought cheaply. Sunil had planned to take Saroj, who was greedy, to a secluded place, make her unconscious, and kidnap her to India to extort a ransom from her relatives on the pretext of showing her the gold. On 9 Kartik, he left home in a car with the registration number Ba Pra 01 30 Cha 7194 and lost contact with his family. Sunil took her to the Dahijoda Community Forest, 17 km from her home, to show her the gold.
There, they tried to make her faint by sniffing something. But, after some time, she regained consciousness. And, she tried to scream. Then, Sunil's nephew Rahul hit her on the head with a hammer and killed her. According to the police, Sunil was assisted in this act by Rahul Sah of Shiv Satakshi 10, who is related to Sunil. Apart from his nephew, another Indian citizen was also with Sunil during the murder.
What happened after the murder? After Saroj died unexpectedly, he made a plan to manage the body. To hide Saroj's body, Sunil put it in his car and went to Biring Khola on the Hulaki Highway in Jhapa Rural Municipality-5. Sunil, Rahul and the Indian citizen first threw the body down from the bridge. They had brought materials such as a shovel to dig a hole. According to the police, the three of them dug a hole about three feet deep on the river bank. And buried the body. All this work took place on the night of the murder. After burying the body, the Indian citizen went to Kijibari in India, while Sunil and Rahul returned to the forest where the murder had taken place. The day after the murder, the main planner Sunil, unaware of anything, reached the deceased Sharma's house. He urged the family to search for the missing person. Till now, the police were also unaware of Saroj's death. On the contrary, the police had also questioned Sunil about it. After burying the body, Sunil and his nephew took the vehicle to different places in the forest and hid it. But fearing that they would also be trapped when the vehicle was found, on 13 Kartik, they brought the vehicle to the Mechinagar-13 Nichajhoda Simsar forest area and burned it. According to the police, they had bought lighters and petrol from the Charali area to burn the vehicle. Then they took the vehicle to the forest and poured petrol on it and set it on fire. While pouring petrol from outside the vehicle and setting it on fire, Sunil's hand was also burnt by the flames. After his hand was burnt, Sunil hurriedly came to the highway and rode a city bus to Birtamod for treatment. After treatment, Sunil rode a car to Rani, a border area of Biratnagar. At that time, i.e. on the 4th, a police team deployed from the Provincial Police Office arrested him.
How was the incident revealed?
The police found the car burnt in the swamp forest area. On the other hand, Sunil's family continued the search after the family members went missing. The police found a slipper and a mask near the burnt car. Saroj had left a number on WhatsApp to contact him when his phone did not work even when he left the house.
The slipper and mask
and the WhatsApp number given by Saroj to the family made it easy for the police to identify the main accused in the incident. He was arrested from his house. Only after the statements of Sunil and Rahul did the police identify the place where the body was buried and on Saturday morning, the police exhumed the body.
What are the things that have not been made public about the incident?
According to the police, an Indian citizen is also involved in this crime. Even though the Indian has been identified, the police have not been able to arrest him. According to the police involved in the investigation, Sunil had sought the help of an Indian citizen to extort money.
