Seal of resistance

What you should know

Sili' means a cultural dance danced in Sakela. Dung in Kirant Rai language means - time/era. 'Silidung' means Sakela's era. Yam of Undhauli and Umbhauli described in Mundum. A time of cultural consciousness.

Poet Gilu Ratos' poetry collection 'Silidung' describes the beauty and disharmony of that time.

The collection of 45 poems consists of four volumes – Resistance, Myth and Being, Chulo and Gaunse Dai. The fourth volume contains only one poem titled 'Debre Haat Ko Pechuri', which is written on the poet-painter Arjun Khaling. Other poems are full of cultural thought. Reading those poems, one can easily guess - poet Ratos has tried to build a different ideology through cultural resistance.

In most of the poems of the second and third sections, the poet has exposed the myths and cultural beauty of the Kirant-Rai caste. The purpose of the poet is to try to tell a universal story of equality and tolerance through Mundumi characters, places and surroundings that carry the history of different civilizations. While telling the story, sometimes it sounds loud and sometimes it is soft! Sometimes the poet is nostalgic for his ancestors and sometimes melancholic. There is a different taste when reading poetry decorated with locality, everyday images and similes.

In his poetry, there are not only cheap emotions like union-separation, sorrow-happiness, laughter-tears and friendship, but also the crises and problems brought to love by cultural, economic, social and political aspects. In those poems, there is also the ugly reality of class inequality, and the dream of change.

Seal of resistance

Discrimination, exploitation and inequality will continue to exist as long as governance and social structures guided by ancient thinking remain. As long as discrimination and inequality remain rampant, resistance will continue. In most of the poems of the first section, the same voice of resistance against the ruler and power has been voiced.

is another theme that comes strongly in his poetry - 'People's War'. In those poems, there is a poignant depiction of the warrior's life and the political ejaculation of leadership. Poet Ratos's poems are ideologically strong and clear but very delicate in terms of craft and style. Having a beautiful craft to convey

ideas in a simple and artistic way is like gold. However, poet Ratos is wrong about this. Another drawback is the language. He has used such language, which poetry does not demand. It is difficult to read a poem. Some poems are unnecessarily long. Those poems demand rewriting and editing. How many poem titles do not seem appropriate.
