Karnali Provincial Assembly Secretary Jeevraj Budhathoki has resigned from his post amid allegations of receiving double benefits. As the dispute escalated, he returned Rs 3,169,923. Secretary Budhathoki had prepared a resignation letter and submitted it to the provincial chief's office last night. "A decision will be made after it is presented to the provincial chief," the employee said.
Secretary Budhathoki had been repeatedly complained to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on charges of receiving double benefits, misusing public funds and violating regulations.
The controversy intensified after the issue of appointing his wife as a private secretary and taking a salary became public. According to the secretariat, he had taken double benefits until Asar 2081, and his account was frozen from Shrawan 2081.
Budhathoki, who was appointed as the provincial secretary on Jestha 12, 2076, was reappointed to the same post for the second time on Jestha 13, 2081. According to an employee of the provincial assembly, his work within the office was not transparent.
‘Other employees are not informed about any work. We have not even received the documents of the refund of the amount. The secretary used to personally respond to the authority,’ he said. With the resignation, the post of secretary in the provincial assembly has become vacant. Sources have informed that future appointments and processes will proceed through the secretariat.
