Prashant Tamang is now only in songs, films, and memories.
What you should know
"A man living a military life suddenly reaches the pinnacle of music. Who else but Prashant Tamang can do justice to the ups and downs of military life on screen?"
While writing the story of the film 'Gorkha Paltan' in 2008, this was the thought that came to the mind of director Narayan Rayamajhi. So, he wrote the main character of the film with Prashant Tamang in mind. And while the preparations for making the film were going on, the team including producer Rajesh Banshal flew to Mumbai.
Tamang, who had just won Idol, was contracted with Sony Company for a certain period of time. In collaboration with Sony, the production team met Prashant, narrated the story of the film. And Prashant said 'yes' in a simple style.
An award winner of an Indian reality show, how can someone be so simple and temperamental amidst the applause and glamour of that time. Prashant's first 'impression' still remains in Narayan's mind as the 'last impression'. 'If you think I am fit for this character, teach me, I will act,' Narayan said, quoting Prashant.
Narayan himself made Prashant's debut in films. That is why Prashant used to remember him in every step of his acting career. Some time ago, Prashant had called him and said, 'I came to this field of acting because of you. I am going to work on a good project in Bollywood, I am calling you for your blessings, sir.'
These words of Prashant are still echoing in the ears of director Rayamajhi, who is in the US. At that time, there was a talk between Narayan and Prashant about doing a new song. According to Narayan, Prashant had told him about many songs that he needed to record. Now, not only those songs, but Prashant has left this world. However, Prashant is found in the memories of such unfinished plans, conversations, and relationships exchanged with him.
This same Prashant, who had promised Narayan to come to Nepal a month and a half ago, has set off on a journey of no return. In his last conversation with Narayan, Prashant had been certain to come to Nepal. However, due to busy work, the scheduled date had to be postponed. Now, the truth that Prashant will never come to Nepal on this postponed date has hurt Narayan's heart.
'I have to do many songs, I will come after staying for a long time.' He had said that he would come to Nepal with his family, and I had to hear this news,' Narayan, who is in the US, told Kantipur, 'I also have my own song, sir, I will record that too. When I came to Nepal, I said that I would return after recording many songs.'
In particular, at that time, Narayan and Prashant were preparing to make a song titled 'Dheraicha Timro Muhar Tiktakaima Dekheen'. Narayan had already narrated the track of the song to Prashant. The plan was to record the song with Ramesh BJ's lyrics and Narayan's music. By recording it in Prashant's voice, the plan was to have him appear in the video of the song. However, as the title of the song suggests, Narayan will now only be able to see Prashant's face on Tiktok. He will only be able to see him in the films he has made and the memories associated with them.
Narayan Rayamajhi's debut directorial debut and Prashant's debut acting, the film 'Gorkha Paltan', became a blockbuster. The song of the film, which was released in 2009, is still in the hearts and minds of the audience. The song 'Gorkha Paltan' became a hit like the film. Narayan knows Prashant as an 'actor who lives in everyone's heart'. There is another reason why Narayan took Prashant in the film, which is 'camera face'. Would it be difficult for a singer who has been singing on a big platform like Indian Idol to act on a camera that shoots a film? Narayan felt the same way at the time. So Narayan called Prashant to Nepal to do the film, forcing him to compromise on the film. At that time, Narayan remembers Prashant acting in the film in a very simple style. 'He worked in a simpler way than he thought. He was always friendly and joking on the set. Even when he was serious about work, he was very friendly by nature,' Narayan recalled.
Narayan's debut directorial and Prashant's debut acting film 'Gorkha Paltan' became a blockbuster. The songs of this film, which was released in 2009, are still in the minds of the audience. The song 'Gorkha Paltan' from the film became a hit like the film. The voice of Prashant and Anju Pant is featured in this song. Similarly, the other songs sung in the film, 'Ghamko Maya Junko Maya', 'Sirima Siri Batasai Chalyo', 'Bichodko Karauntile', 'Aago Piyer Chashne' and other songs have also been liked by the audience. 'Even now, the songs from that film are just as hit. This film was very popular,' says Narayan.
Narayan, who collaborated with him at that height of his career, says that he had no 'ego' at that time. 'He had no ego. He was always the same,' recalls Narayan in the past.
After ‘Gorkha Paltan’, Narayan did two other films with Prashant in a row. He also played Prashant in ‘Pardeshi’ and ‘Pardeshi 2’. Prashant was in the lead role in ‘Gorkha Paltan’. In ‘Pardeshi’, he was one of the three lead actors. In this film, which is about foreign employment, Prashant’s character struggles to go abroad. In ‘Pardeshi 2’, his role was not very long.
But, actress Keki Adhikari narrates that she has all the scenes. ‘I had the most scenes with him in Pardeshi 2.’ The scene where he comes to ask for my hand is included in the film,’ Keki said. Prashant had met Keki at the beginning of his career.
Keki had started acting in a few songs around 2010. At that time, Keki had acted in Prashant's song 'Man Saili'. He had suggested Keki's name to act in Prashant's first song.
'He was the one who said that the model of the flower that bloomed in the forest should not be kept, his expression is so good.' That year, this song was very popular,' says Keki, 'There was no one who did not know him at that time.'
When Prashant was on the stage of Indian Idol, Keki's group in the hostel had raised money and voted for him. About a decade later, when she met Prashant on the sets of 'Pardeshi 2', Keki experienced some changes in him. Around 2010, Prashant had a different charm. It was like meeting a bird flying in the sky of music. But, meeting him after a long time was like meeting a different Prashant.
'I had asked him then-what was happening to you. I didn't see you laughing so much,' Keki recalls her time with Prashant, 'At that time, his mother had just passed away. I had been enduring everything in my life. But, I had shared that I was not able to accept the passing of my mother.' Keki remembers Prashant as an easygoing actor. 'He was a very easy-going co-actor while working. He had a nature of respecting everyone,' Keki said.
Indian actress Tilottama Shome, who worked with him in 'Paatal Lok-2', paid tribute to Prashant on social media Instagram, posting a picture of him and writing about her experience working with him, 'It was a pleasure working with you.'
Actor Anupam Bikram Shahi, who worked with Prashant in Salman Khan's film 'Battle of Galwan', remembers him as a friendly personality. 'I met him for 4/5 days on the sets of the film. He was a very friendly, good personality. I met him only 4/5 months ago, I can't believe this news,' said actor Shahi.
