The mortal remains of famous singer and Indian Idol Season 3 winner Prashant Tamang are being taken from Bagdogra Airport to Darjeeling.

Tamang died of a heart attack in Delhi on Sunday morning.

A large number of well-wishers, fans, artists and locals gathered at the Bagdogra airport premises on Monday morning to pay their respects.

After the tributes, his body was taken to Darjeeling in a special vehicle. After reaching Darjeeling, it will be kept at the Information and Culture Department under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) for some time and a public tribute will be paid, informed filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani, who was on his way to Darjeeling to attend Tamang's funeral.

After Tamang's family and well-wishers requested that he be cremated in Darjeeling, his birthplace, GTA chief Anit Thapa took the initiative to bring Tamang's body from Delhi. 

The death of 43-year-old Tamang has left not only Darjeeling but also the Nepali-speaking community around the world in mourning.
