According to Malika, at that time her film had to clash with other films and the results at the box office were not good. However, after the film was uploaded on YouTube, many people started telling him, 'I have seen your debut film.'
1 crore 80 million people have watched 'Yatra' on YouTube, so his words can be taken for granted. Malika, who plays the role of a blind girl, has been praised for her performance for a scene in the film when she is singing a song.
Malika's second film 'Panifoto' also failed to heat up the box office. She was seen as 'Radha' opposite Khagendra Lamichhane and once again made her 'notice' among the audience. Her role in the film is very brief but important, a girlfriend who waits for her lost lover during the conflict. Malika has brought the character's waiting, impatience and restlessness to life.
Malika says that the experience of doing 'Panifoto' was the best so far. She was only included in the film towards the end. She was only able to do a one-week workshop for the film directed by Khagendra. Before the film, Malika had no idea about the lost and waiting characters. However, when she understood the mentality and feelings of those who were waiting for someone through the character, she was able to connect with them. Malika did not have much time for
character building. She started listening to emotional songs to prepare for the character. Throughout the journey of the car from Kathmandu to Syangja, she listened to similar songs, chanting their words in her heart. "I followed the character in the same mood that I was listening to those songs," Malika recalls, "I never listened to a sad song." But, I started listening for the character.'
After playing 'Paniphoto', Malika felt that her acting skills had developed. She got to spend a month mixing with seasoned actors Menu Pradhan, director Lamichhane, Anup Baral. I learned a lot from 'Paniphoto' directly/indirectly. While working with Khagendra Dai, I used to carefully observe the process of preparing for the character from his movements. I was able to learn a lot by watching those things, which I am applying in subsequent projects,” she said.
In the short journey of her career, Malika has immersed herself in many dimensions of art. Recently she was seen in the drama 'Pagla Ghoda'. The play presented a love story of four male characters, satirizing the condition of women in a patriarchal society. On stage, she played the role of the girlfriend of all four men. Or, she played the role of different female characters on the same stage. Malika, who was acting in front of the camera, was 'loud' on the stage. She herself admits this.
Even in real life, Malika does not speak so loudly. Her low voice worked for the camera, but when she spoke from the stage to the entire audience, she remained 'loud'. "To do four characters at once, that was probably the most challenging work I have ever done. It was very difficult, when I was preparing, I said I couldn't,' she told the process of creating the character, 'I couldn't balance on the stage when I had to speak in such a loud voice.' to him Four characters had to be done in a short span of time. Therefore, one and a half months of practice was not enough for him. Malika got a glimpse of the character only a few days before the play was staged.
While doing that character, she felt what 'depression' is like. They feel lonely within themselves. She wanted to show that feeling on stage through her character. Even though she is currently working on her film 'Sati Devi', she has been able to closely understand the struggle of women in the society. Even in 'Pagala Ghoda', she could understand the struggle and condition of the female character.
Malika, who gave life to the struggle of female characters from the screen to the stage, did not have to struggle much to enter the film industry. She considers herself lucky in this sense. Because till then he had no relationship with the film industry. She got an offer for a music video after looking at a photo she posted on Instagram. That music video opened the door to films for him.
'The work will drag the work, otherwise there are artists who can do it better than me. They deserve better than me. But, the fact that I am here without much suffering keeps touching me," said Malika, "Sometimes things don't come. Even then, you have to take care of yourself and move forward.
Malika got an opportunity to work in a different genre in the last film 'Agatsya'. She was seen in the role of 'Chandni' in the suspense thriller film. Food poisoning happened while the film was being shot in Gorakhpur. Malika still hasn't forgotten the moment she had her first scene with Saugat Malla. Malika was nervous when she had to act with an actor whom she considered an 'idol'.
When she was in class 4, Malika joined the school's 'drama club' and performed a play called 'Madhumalati'. Since then, she has been able to identify her interests. However, she did not dream of becoming an artist. However, the camera followed Malika to the screen.
Having worked in more than three dozen music videos, she was drawn from music videos to films by the same acting she did in her childhood. I was introverted and shy. I felt like I couldn't do anything, I wasn't very good in studies either,' Malika adds, 'The same acting I did in my childhood indicated that there was something in me too. That's why acting has become a special place for me. Malika, who came to acting from the
digital platform, suggests young people to use such platforms thoughtfully. Perhaps I was written to come from this platform and I came. Therefore, I think that this platform will be fruitful only if it is run in the right way,” she said.
