Nowadays, we can easily buy anything online by paying for it. But a few decades ago, it was considered very complicated. One of the people who played an important role in making it easy and popular around the world is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

Bezos used to make new business plans since his school days. In 1994, he started a virtual bookstore (online bookstore) in Seattle, Washington, with his wife MacKenzie Scott. He named it after the world's largest river 'Amazon'.

Initially, with the help of a limited number of employees, he created such software, which was sure to bring a new revolution in online business in the future. In July 1995, Amazon.com officially launched its service on the Internet. It created history by selling its first book through online payment with a credit card.

Initially started as an online bookstore, the company has expanded over time to include various e-commerce products and services, including video and audio streaming, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.  Jeff Bezos became both rich and popular due to his innovative business thinking and commitment. As e-commerce grew globally, Amazon shares also surged in July 2017. His net worth reached $90 billion. Jeff Bezos surpassed Bill Gates to become the world's richest person on Bloomberg's list of the world's richest people. In March 2018, he became the first person in the modern world to earn more than $100 billion.

Forbes also ranked Jeff Bezos first on its list of the world's richest people. After his divorce on July 5, 2019, his wife received an equal share of $38 billion of his net worth. Despite this, he remained the world's richest person. On August 26, 2020, he also became the world's first billionaire to earn more than $200 billion.

He was at the top of the list until Tesla CEO Elon Musk surpassed him in January 2021. According to the latest Forbes list, he is the fourth richest person in the world with a net worth of $258 billion.

Jeff was born on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His father, Ted Jorgensen, was a unicycle hockey player. When Jeff was born, his mother, Jacqueline Gies, was 17 years old. She was still in high school. His father, Ted, was 19 years old. As a child, Ted named Jeff Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen. Ted's relationship with Jacqueline did not work out due to his heavy drinking. They divorced when Jeff was 17 months old. After that, Jeff was raised by his maternal grandparents.

After working all day, mother Jacqueline would take Jeff to school at night. That's how she completed her studies. Jacqueline met Miguel Bezos, who came from Cuba. And, they decided to get married. With the permission of Jeff's father, Ted, Miguel gave Jeff custody. At that time, Jeff was four years old. After this, Ted never came into contact with Jacqueline and Jeff.

In 2012, 'Bloomberg Business Week' journalist Brad Stone visited Ted's small bicycle repair shop in Glendale, Arizona and revealed that he was Jeff's biological father. In that conversation, Ted said that this was the first time he knew that the world-famous billionaire Jeff was his son. Because they had been separated for years, Ted could not have guessed that Jeff was his child.

Ted expressed a strong desire to meet his son in the last moments of his life, regretting his past shortcomings. But Ted died in 2015 at the age of 71 before he could meet Jeff in person.

Jeff has always considered Miguel Bezos, who is of Cuban origin, to be his father. From Miguel and Jacqueline's side, Jeff has a half-sister, Christina, and a brother, Mark Bezos. In 2021, Mark also went on a space trip with Jeff.

Jeff graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in engineering. He worked at various financial institutions from 1986 to early 1994. He then founded Amazon. Initially started as an online bookstore, the company expanded over time to various e-commerce products and services, including video and audio streaming, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.

It is the world's largest online sales and the largest internet company by revenue. Amazon Web Services is the world's largest provider of virtual assistants and cloud infrastructure services under this company.

He resigned as CEO of Amazon in February 2021 and has been the executive chairman since July 2021. Jeff's investments are spread across many businesses. In 2000, he founded the space flight company Blue Origin. This company has launched a space program by purchasing a launch pad in Texas. Through this company, Jeff went into space with his brother and other passengers on July 20, 2021. It has made several successful flights so far.

Jeff purchased the Washington Post and its affiliated publications in 2013. Jeff's 25-year marriage to MacKenzie Scott ended in divorce in 2019. The couple has four children. Then Bezos married Lauren Sanchez in 2025. Bezos is also known for his philanthropic activities. He pledged to give $10 billion in 2020 to combat climate change and conserve nature through the Bezos Earth Fund.

Jeff has been helping the homeless through the Bezos Day One Families Fund. He has also built buildings for free pre-schools through this fund. In an interview at the end of 2022, Bezos said he wanted to donate a large portion of his wealth during his lifetime.
