The Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions (CBIFIN), an organization of chairmen, has condemned the incident of beating up an employee of Jyoti Bikas Bank who went to discuss with the borrower.
In a statement on Monday, CBIFIN condemned the incident in Saptari where a group of borrowers held and beat up an employee for hours.
‘When the employees of the Jyoti Bikas Bank branch in Rupani, Saptari district, went to discuss the issue at the request of the borrowers themselves for a proper resolution of the issue due to the inability to pay the installments of the loan they had been receiving for a long time, CBIFIN strongly condemns the extremely shameful, disgusting and bestial behavior and violent attack on the employees by a group of borrowers led by a responsible officer of the local level, who are semi-judicial bodies,’ the federation’s statement said.
Immediately after such a criminal incident, instead of immediately investigating and bringing the culprits to justice without a complaint, CBIFIN has also expressed strong objection to the fact that the local security agencies ignored the victim’s complaint and did not register it and pressured them to settle the case.
‘We strongly demand that the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the security agencies under its jurisdiction take maximum action against those involved in such barbaric and violent incidents that have severely affected the lives of dutiful employees and have severely affected the lives of their sensitive and essential sectors, such as banks and financial institutions, for vested interests,’ the statement said. ‘We believe that such a despicable attack on banks and financial institutions and their employees, who are the pillars of the economy and diligently performing their duties and responsibilities, is not only an attack on the employees and the banking sector, but also on the Government of Nepal itself.’
