Taragaon Regency Hotels (Hyatt Regency) in Bouddha, which will be closed for a year due to the impact of the 'Gen-G' movement, has decided to provide minimum wages to all its workers and employees throughout the closure period.

The hotel administration has agreed to pay the workers and employees working at the hotel for one year after talks with labor organizations affiliated with the Nepali Congress, UML, and Maoist (currently CPN) close to them.

According to Dilli Prasad Bajgain, president of the UML-affiliated Nepal Independent Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, it is estimated that it will take at least a year for the hotel to be fully renovated and operational again. During that period, the workers will receive the minimum basic salary of Rs 12,170 set by the government.

The hotel management has also committed to depositing 11 percent of the workers' salaries and 20 percent from the hotel's labor fund, a total of 31 percent, into the Social Security Fund. The agreement states that a separate fund of Rs 22 million will be created for the payment of workers' salaries, of which the management will contribute an additional Rs 2 million.

The agreement was signed by General Manager Ashish Kumar, Public Relations Manager Gopalmani Bhandari and Company Secretary Geeta Dahal on behalf of the hotel, while representatives of all three labor organizations signed on behalf of the workers. Chairman Bajgain said that the agreement was signed a few days ago and the workers are currently collecting signatures.

The hotel had issued a one-month notice to all workers and laborers last month, prohibiting them from entering the hotel premises as it would take a year to rebuild the hotel. After the management's decision, the workers had submitted a demand letter expressing their disagreement. It has also been agreed to call the workers and laborers back to work as soon as the hotel is operational. Earlier, in Kartik, all the workers had made demands to the management after the management said that they would not pay the hotel's closure period wages and would not re-employ them.
