The Road Division and Planning Offices are publishing public notices giving 15 days to state the names of construction contractors and why they should not terminate the contracts of roads and bridges that have not progressed. After the notice was issued, some construction contractors have come in contact and expressed their commitment to work. However, the Road Department has stated that some have not come in contact. So far, the highest number of sick contracts are under the Road Division, Kathmandu. According to the office, there are 57 such sick contracts. Since the notice was issued with 15 days, the reason for the non-performance of the work has been sought from the construction contractors, and the process of terminating the contract will be taken forward after looking into this, said Subodh Kumar Devkota, Chief of the Road Division, Kathmandu. The Road Department has also stated that contracts dating back to 2068 BS have not yet been completed. Out of the 15-day period, 49 contracts have now reached that period and the construction contractors have submitted reasons for not completing the work, said Shyam Bahadur Khadka, spokesperson for the Road Department. 'Some contracts have been completed after the notice was issued, and the work of those with a small amount of work remaining has been completed,' he said. 'We are reviewing the written reasons submitted by the contractors as the specified time period has expired in some contracts. If there is no understandable response and the work is not done, such contracts will be legally terminated.' According to the data provided by the Road Department, notices have been published to terminate 17 contracts under the Road Division Office Tumlingtar and 15 contracts under the Road Division Doti after no progress.'
