After the Nepal government decided not to proceed with the export subsidy application process for the last financial year, the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed serious objection. The union expressed its objection through a statement on Friday.
In a statement signed by the president of the association, Hari Prasad Gautam, it is mentioned that this decision will have a negative impact on the morale of Nepali exporters and increase the risk of reducing the confidence of industrialists towards the government.
The Department of Industry published a notice on October 23 and decided not to process the subsidy applications of exporters who had exported in the year 2081/082 this year. "The exporters of Nepal, a landlocked country, are contributing to earning foreign currency for the nation even in the midst of economic recession and political transition," the statement said, "in this situation, the government's policy has hurt their enthusiasm."
Association has also demanded to extend the deadline for submitting the application according to schedule-3 along with self-declaration for the exporters of the financial year 2081/082. Also, even if immediate cash subsidy distribution is not possible, the government has also requested the government to protect the exporters by issuing bonds equal to that amount. The
association has also suggested that the government should seriously understand the current financial crisis, transitional situation and unusual economic situation and take concrete steps for export promotion and industrial development.
