In Nepal, about 7 million consumers have taken permanent account numbers. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Finance, with the addition of 773 thousand 217 taxpayers in one year, the number of taxpayers who have permanent account number has reached 6999 thousand 350 by the end of last June.

The number of business permanent account number (BPAN), permanent account number (WPAN), personal permanent account number (PPAN) taken by tax authorities has gradually increased. According to the Revenue Management Division of the Ministry of Finance, the number of people taking Professional Permanent Account Number (BPAN) has increased by 28,430 to 2,60,758 in one year, while the number of people taking WPAN has increased by 2,542 to 35,870.

The number of people who took Personal Permanent Account Number (PPAN) in one financial year was 6 lakh 54 thousand 18 people. According to which, the total number of personal permanent account numbers has reached 49 lakh 2 thousand 722. 

By the last financial year, the number of people registered for value added tax reached 351 thousand 735 and the number of people registered for internal tax reached 124 thousand 997. The number of people taking personal permanent account number increased rapidly with the policy of 'one person one permanent account number' through the budget of the fiscal year 2076/77. But in the meantime, there was a decrease in the number of permanent account number takers due to covid.

Now the government has been identifying taxpayers through personal permanent account numbers. It has been made mandatory especially for filing income tax, filing tax returns and other tax related activities.

A permanent account number is required to open a bank account, transact large sums of money, take a loan or make a credit card. For investment in stock market, mutual fund, property purchase or other financial investment  Even if it is made mandatory, it is also made mandatory in transactions of large amounts above a certain amount. 

From the Internal Revenue Department and its subordinates, this number  It is given free. According to the tax officials, this number is helping to make financial transactions of individuals organized and legal.
