A suitable financial model will be introduced to build reservoir hydropower projects

The government has said that it will adopt a suitable financial model for the development of multi-purpose and reservoir-based hydropower projects.

On Friday, President Ramchandra Paudel, while presenting the policy and program for the next financial year, said that a separate financial model will be adopted to address the demand for electricity supply during dry seasons and to maintain energy security.

President Paudel has also said that national and international high capacity transmission lines will be expanded with the participation of the private sector.

According to the data of Nepal Electricity Authority, 224 circuit kilometers of international transmission lines have been constructed for the import-export of electricity with a capacity of 1,745 megawatts.

It has also been mentioned that necessary policy and regulatory arrangements for transmission and wheeling charges will be arranged to build the electricity transmission structure.

India and Bangladesh have to pay wheeling charges to import and export electricity, which the authority has been deciding on who will pay through negotiations.

The government has also announced that private capital will be mobilized for hydropower construction under the People's Climate Program.

It is the government's plan to use the remittances of citizens who have gone for foreign employment in the construction of hydropower projects.
