Stakeholders have said that the government, private sector and others should work together to create jobs within the country. This was said by the speakers in the first session of the two-day National Labor and Employment Conference, 2081, 'Identification and promotion of potential areas for internal employment creation' held in Kathmandu on Monday.
Birendraraj Pandey, senior vice president of Nepal Industry Confederation, said that due to the potential of the energy sector, there should be stability of electricity in households as well as industry. He said that the unauthorized trade from the border area is also causing problems to the industrialists. "Even the informal sector will have to be gradually brought under the tax regime by giving benefits including tax exemptions," he said, "The benefits provided by the law to the private sector are given by one act and cut by another act." He said that employment can be created in the country.
President of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) Vinayak Shah said that since five star hotels are opening one after the other recently, they have been able to serve 3.5 million tourists. "We have the capacity to serve 5 million tourists in the next 5 to 10 years," he said, "we can provide employment to 1 million people". But we don't have skilled manpower .' He said that even though 2500 brothers and sisters are going abroad to find a future, there is a lack of skilled manpower in the hotel sector.
Quality services and products are only due to hard working workers President of Nepal Trade Union Congress Yogendra Kunwar said that the incentive should be taken with time. Jyotsana Shrestha, Associate Vice President of Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that she felt that the development of the industrial sector was not possible due to the lack of clarity in the roles of the government, employers and civil society. He understands that the prices of industrial products have been affected due to various reasons including low electricity supply and bad roads.
President of NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal Karan Choudhary said that it is not possible to create jobs in a country with sluggish economy and unstable policies. He said that employment in the automobile sector has not been created due to various reasons including business not being able to flourish, salaries not being increased.
FO program specialist Arun GC said that 56 percent of farmers are still using traditional rice seeds. He was informed about production and productivity enhancement in agriculture.
