Landslides caused by incessant rains have damaged the structure (headworks) of the dam area of ​​the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project. Power generation has been stopped from 7 pm on Friday due to the high water flow in upper Tamakoshi located in Bigu Rural Municipality-1 Lamabagar of Dolakha.

All the gates of the dam have been opened. A little below the dam site, the control room on the right side, the sand thickening pond (desander) and the canal (culvert) that conveys water from the dam to the desander have been damaged. It is estimated that the control room, desander and culvert have been heavily damaged due to the landslide that fell from above.

Mohan Gautam, the chief executive officer of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower, the promoter company of the project, said that due to flooding in the rivers on the access road from Gongar to the dam, the project's promoter company.

Looking at the nature of the landslide, it is estimated that the structures including the control room, desander and culvert have been damaged, he said. Due to the landslide, a large amount of stones and mud have been piled up in the reservoir area.

The design discharge (flow of water) of the Tamakoshi project is 66 cumec . Now the flow of Tamakoshi river is 461 cumec at the dam site. The electricity purchase and sale agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority requires that the power house should be closed as soon as the water flow in Bamojim river reaches 250 cumec.

After 4 pm on Friday, the water flow exceeded 250 cumec and the water flow continued to increase, and the power generation was completely stopped from 7 pm.
