The Surel community, which is very small in number, has celebrated the festival of Ubholi by worshiping the bird asking for water to grow crops. It is customary to celebrate Ubholi festival as a celebration of the arrival of the wheat crop by the endangered Surels in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-5 Suri.
Prahlad Surel, president of Surle Utthan Samaj, said that there is a custom to celebrate Ubholi by worshiping the land and singing and dancing while planting new crops. There are 57 families of Surel community living in Gaurishankar-5 Suri. Similarly, 3 families live in Khare of Ward No. 8.
The federal government has been giving monthly social security allowance to the Surel caste as soon as they are born. Currently, 231 Surel people are receiving allowance. Because of this, the number of 231 people in the records is correct. Surel said that since their ancestors were hunters, they introduced themselves as their children and traditionally celebrated Ubholi by worshiping birds. On the day of Ubhavoli, there is a custom of watching Jokhana from the window. Likewise Ubholi is celebrated by making a pure and clean field of new crop wheat from every house and bringing it to Bhoomi Puja at the rate of one Pathi.
It is a tradition for the Surels to conclude Ubholi properly by performing Chandi Pooja on Ubhauli Chandipuni and the next day. "It is customary for the Surels to ask for water to start the crops, to put birds, chickens and wheat stalks in 24 places, and after worshiping the land by the Naxo (priest) and Ngayiga (drummer), they have a collective feast," he said.
Before worship in Bhume, there is a tradition in the Surel community to shake the village house by bringing out bellpatti and dance music from the house of Jhankri. In Ubhauli of Surrey, young women of the Newar community also join the worship by becoming Jhankri. Therefore, not only Surel but also other communities celebrate Ubhauli in Suri jointly.
