Many countries, including India, criticized the security checks at the Tribhuvan International Airport after the hijacking of the Indian Airlines plane. Even now, three Indian airlines carry out 'screening' of their flight passengers at the last point before boarding.

Kantipur Dainik's correspondent Suraj Kunwar talked to General Manager Jagannath Niraula about Tribhuvan International Airport, which changed after the hijacking incident 25 years ago.

Exactly 25 years ago today, an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked. Since then, what has been improved in the security of Tribhuvan International Airport?  

Previously, many jobs had to rely on people. Now is the age of technology . At that time there were 16 cc cameras . At that time there were around 100 security personnel under the leadership of SP. Now there are around 500 security personnel under the leadership of the DIG. What is the

technique? How is Passenger, Baggage and Cargo checked ?  

Modern X-ray machine, CC camera with record for 90 days, walk-through gate, flap gate, metal detector etc. There are only 50 check points of the security agencies. There are 200 state-of-the-art VHF radio sets at the ground.

How do you find out if someone has taken weapons and explosives?  

The airport has Explosive Test Detector (ETD) technology to detect explosives. It detects any explosive substance whether it is dust or liquid with microscopic probe .

When it comes to weapons, even fake toys cannot be carried . A large weapon will be shown by X-ray . Now there is such technology . If there is a needle or a needle in the bag of the passenger, it will be detected.  

Why is there a delay in checking passengers at the airport?

Security checks are now very fast. Foreigners don't have to stand in long queues at the security check in Nepal from time to time. Many countries say it is fast. We have queues or delays at immigration. There is also a computer desk and manpower is increasing . Now, even in immigration, the checking of visa, passport and travel documents is fast. 

Is there a security audit here? How to believe ?  

Every 5 years there is an audit of Nepal's ground including passenger safety. According to the standards set by the International Aviation Organization (ICAO), there is a detailed inspection on safety . The result of Nepal's audit has been seen to be of international level. 

Security personnel keep being transferred ? How does he know about airport security ? 

Every security personnel coming to Kathmandu airport must undergo 16-day training . This training is also according to the standards set by ICAO. Such training is provided by the trainers of the Academy Center of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority in Bhaktapur. Apart from that, they are also trained by the police on terrorism or other weapons security.

Every now and then there are reports of people getting into Kathmandu airport, how?

Now everything from boarding pass to passport is digital . Biometric security equipment is mandatory for every passenger on international flights. Passengers' fingerprints and facial records are kept. 25 years ago handwritten passports, handwritten boarding passes were used. Now that jamna is no longer .
