Major political parties are preparing to write manifestos with issues to attract voters for the upcoming House of Representatives elections on February 21. After the Gen-G movement of last Bhadra, the old parties are challenged to put forward new issues. The new parties are also challenged to win the hearts of voters by putting forward new and different issues than the old ones.

There are also allegations that the manifestos of the parties include issues that cannot be implemented. Former MP Khim Lal Devkota also says that although the manifestos written by the parties are good, there are weaknesses in their implementation.

A brief conversation between Kantipur and former MP Devkota on the subject of party manifestos and their implementation:

Political parties are busy writing election manifestos, what is the status of the implementation of the manifestos of the last election?

I have read the manifestos of all the parties in the last election. I have looked at it from the perspective of implementing federalism. But there is no honesty in the parties. What they say in the manifestos is one thing, but what they do is another. For example, even though the Congress-UML coalition government raised the issue of amending the constitution, they did not implement it. In the past, the manifestos of the Congress, UML, and Maoists were good. They talked about economic prosperity, good governance, implementing federalism, and improving the electoral system. There were issues such as provincial police, employee adjustment, etc. But after joining the government, he was not found to have read his own election manifesto.

Why did federalism remain weak again?

Activities to weaken federalism were seen in parliament. Necessary laws were not made for the provinces. MPs should have read the manifestos of each party regarding federalism. But they did not.

What is the basis for voters to believe the manifesto in the upcoming elections?

Voters should vote for the party after reading the manifesto. The constitution should be amended to improve good governance, corruption prevention, and the electoral system. All these issues should be clearly stated in the manifesto. The people should have read the manifesto and asked why the promises were not fulfilled in the past. How many times can the prime minister be elected, the term should be fixed. The term of the minister should be fixed. The term of the MP should be fixed. If leaders are tried to stop them all at once, they will break the constitution. That is why we should gradually improve.

It is difficult to trust the tested parties based on their colorful manifestos, isn't it?

The old parties like Congress, UML, Maoists have been tested. Now we should trust the new parties and the new leadership. The people should vote by looking at the manifesto that can be implemented and the future Prime Minister. The people have seen the old faces of Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Oli, Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The test has also been done. That is why the opportunity has come to choose a leadership that will really work.
