Rajendra Shrestha, chairman of the Federal Council of the Janata Samajwadi Party, said that the issue of identity arose on the basis of historical human geography and it was interpreted in different ways. A conversation with him for E-Kantipur about the identificationist movement before Koshi:

Is the issue of identity overshadowed now ?

If the constitution is to be amended, the issue of the directly elected executive president has become a major issue. When the government puts forward the agenda of constitutional amendment, we focus on it . Now, if the constitution is amended, if it is put in the schedule in the structure of the province, the issue of identity will arise again . If the government does not revise the issue of identity, it cannot be admitted.  Why is identity politics necessary? The issue of

identity has arisen on the basis of historical human geography. But it has been interpreted differently. Since it is based on human geography, this issue is to be established . There were many kingdoms in history . On the basis of identity, it means to include them in the federal state . Madhesh province in Nepal was possible only on the basis of identity . It does not mean that there are no other provinces. A federal system is a union of human communities .  Why couldn't the

identity issue be firmly established?

It was not possible in areas other than Madhesh due to the racist thinking of the leaders . The racist thinking of the top leader of the old party is trying to suppress the issue of identity . It became possible to name many provinces based on human geography in India. However, there was no reason why this could not be possible in Nepal.

Was it possible to keep the name of Koshi province on the basis of identity?

In Nepal, it was not possible to keep the name of Koshi province on the basis of identity due to the racist rulers. This is also a proof that the voice of the identitarians there has been forcibly suppressed.

Social discrimination raises the movement . If social discrimination continues, the identity movement will rise again. The top leader of the old party still has a double trick. Identity is also about preserving and promoting human geography.

The issue of identity is becoming more complicated
