Sangi Shrestha's solo painting exhibition features 116 artworks that inspire viewers to seek introspection, freedom, and identity.
Sangi Shrestha is an artist who has been making a distinct mark in the Nepali painting field. Her solo exhibition titled ‘Insight’ is being held at ‘The Kala Salon’ in Thamel Chhaya Center. In the exhibition, she has tried to express the story of identity, personal experience and self-discovery that is missing in society through paintings. According to Shrestha, there are many themes in society, but the job of an artist is to identify and search for oneself in it. She said, ‘If you come and look at it alone, you can find yourself in this painting. My aim is to help you identify yourself.’
The colors, shapes and symbols used in her canvases also express this feeling. You can find something different in every shape and canvas. She says that she has used different colors on the canvases, sometimes red, sometimes light colors, sometimes bright, sometimes dark colors to give emotional depth. She said, ‘Color expresses a person’s feelings, red is the color of freedom and dark colors inspire peace.’
In her canvas, a butterfly flying within red acts as a symbol of freedom. According to her, sometimes one has to forget oneself for freedom.’ She said, ‘The butterfly seeks freedom, and sometimes we too have to put our experiences and identities aside and seek freedom.’
Shrestha’s art is deeply connected to her personal life. Loneliness after the death of her mother inspired her to find her own identity. She captured this feeling on her canvas.
She said that painting is not just an artistic creation but a means of self-realization and exploration. She said that she inspires the audience to ‘find their own identity’ through her creations. She said, ‘While looking at this painting, you will get the opportunity to know yourself.’ Art is not just for looking, but also for feeling and finding your identity. ’
