India's Kakroach Janata Party (CJP) on Monday demanded the release of all protesters arrested during demonstrations held across the country. After the protests, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had resigned. Similarly, an agreement was reached between the government and the CJP not to take action against those arrested during the protests.

The CJP, which has been protesting against question paper leaks and other irregularities in examinations, stated that it had received information that students were being held in custody in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, and other states.

"Failure to release those arrested or to withdraw the criminal charges filed against them would be a violation of public trust," the CJP said in a statement. It warned that it would take further necessary steps if its demands were not met.

This demand from the protest group came two days after Education Minister Pradhan resigned, at a time when dissatisfaction among students and youth was rising due to repeated question paper leaks and other irregularities in competitive examinations.

Although the government had assured that punitive action would not be taken against the protesters, the CJP has accused it of not fulfilling its commitments.

Last week, there were continuous protests with massive participation of students, mainly in New Delhi and various other cities, demanding Pradhan's resignation and comprehensive reforms in the examination system.

In this context, the protest in New Delhi on July 20 took a more intense turn. When protesters tried to march from Jantar Mantar towards the Parliament building, police dispersed the crowd by firing tear gas and using batons. During this, clashes occurred and many protesters were taken into custody.
