Kakroach Janata CJP spokespersons Ashutosh Ranka and Saurabh Das held a high-level meeting with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh on Friday.
They said the government had given in-principle agreement to the demands for compensation to the families of students who committed suicide due to the NEET exam and for no legal action to be taken against protesting students.
Similarly, regarding the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, they said the government had requested time until Saturday afternoon. CJP has been leading the movement demanding reforms in the education sector in light of the NEET question paper leak scandal and insisting on the resignation of Education Minister Pradhan.
"Minister Pradhan must resign or be dismissed," Ranka told reporters, "We have made our position clear to the government on this matter. The government has requested time until tomorrow afternoon to respond to this demand." He also warned that if there is a delay in removing Minister Pradhan, the movement would become even more intense and widespread.
Ranka said CJP is optimistic that the government will soon dismiss Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He also informed that the next round of talks with the central government has been scheduled for Saturday.
Likewise, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke expressed concern that the government might arrest or detain protest leaders overnight. As a larger crowd is expected to join the movement on Saturday and Sunday, he suspected the government might arrest those in leadership positions beforehand.
Sonam Wangchuk Ends Hunger Strike
Earlier, environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk also ended his 26-day indefinite hunger strike after Education Minister Pradhan at 12 midnight on Thursday. He said the government had given a written assurance to compensate students who committed suicide due to the NEET question paper leak and not to take legal action against students involved in the clash with police during the 'March to Parliament' last Monday.
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had established a fast-track court. However, CJP has maintained that the resignation of Education Minister Pradhan remains the bottom line of the movement.
