The floods and landslides caused by incessant rains in Bangladesh over the past few days have caused huge loss of life and property. At least 51 people have died and more than 1 million people have been affected.   The worst affected area is Cox's Bazar. 28 people have died there. The area is home to the world's largest Rohingya refugee camp.

Last week, a school in Cox's Bazar was flooded, killing several people, including students and teachers.  Similarly, life has become difficult after knee-deep water flooded the streets of the capital Dhaka.

Thousands of people have been left homeless and forced to live in government shelters. Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has directed the relevant agencies to adopt high alert to expedite relief and health services in the affected areas.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Center, although the situation in the southeast is returning to normal, the risk of flooding still exists in the north and northeast.  Experts have expressed concern that monsoon rains are becoming more intense and unpredictable than in previous years due to climate change.
