Local authorities have reported that the death toll from the Ebola outbreak in Congo has reached 648. Similarly, as of Saturday, infection has been confirmed in 1,830 people.

Officials have stated that the latest figures include infections and deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.

Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba said that Sopo and Haut-Uele provinces have also been added to the list of provinces most affected by Ebola.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) had warned that the actual scale of the Ebola outbreak in Congo could be two to four times higher than the official figures indicate.
