The United States has announced that it will remove Syria from the list of 'State Sponsors of Terrorism.' When the US placed Syria on this list, it created problems for attracting foreign investment to Syria.

In a statement published on Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, 'This is another historic step taken by President Trump to give the Syrian people an opportunity for greatness.' The US has stated that this long-awaited move will take effect in 45 days.

This step comes after US President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Al-Shara on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Turkey.

President Al-Shara is a former rebel. After toppling the Al-Assad family, who had ruled for nearly half a century, in 2024, he has planned to lead Syria on the path of reconstruction. He has stated that national unity has been prioritized for this purpose.

Rubio said, 'Lifting sanctions on Syria will open the doors to international trade and investment. It will give Syria an opportunity for reconstruction and mark the beginning of a new chapter for the Syrian people. A stable, unified Syria at peace with itself and its neighbors will benefit not only this region but the entire world.'

Despite Israel's dissatisfaction, Trump has given this support to Al-Shara. Israel has repeatedly carried out airstrikes in Syria.

Previously, Trump had publicly pressured Syria to maintain peace with Israel. However, even though there was no concrete progress, he moved forward with the decision to remove Syria from the list. Trump has praised Al-Shara. In Ankara, Turkey, Trump said, 'He is doing an incredible job uniting Syria. He is doing an excellent job.'
