At least four people were injured after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake struck at a depth of 44 kilometers off the Pacific coast. However, the agency said there was no threat of a tsunami.
According to the local fire departments of Hasikami and Hachinohe, four injured people have been taken to hospital for treatment. The department urged people to be vigilant for the coming week.
Japan, known as a country with high seismic activity risk, is located on the edge of four tectonic plates. Similarly, there are 100 active volcanoes.
Earlier, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the tsunami that followed in Japan in 2011 killed more than 15,000 people.
