An Iranian court has sentenced singer Parastu Ahmadi and eight other members of the Caravanserai ‘Concert’ to 74 lashes for singing without a hijab. They were also banned from traveling abroad for two years and from engaging in artistic activities for two years. The Guardian reported that a court in Iran’s Qom province had handed down a similar ruling. Citing articles of Islamic law, the court sentenced each member to 74 lashes. It also ordered the media to publish the verdict. The artists were accused of harming public decency by broadcasting false and obscene content on the internet. The video of the Caravanserai concert was uploaded to singer Parastu Ahmadi’s YouTube channel in 2024.
