British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged American billionaire businessman and owner of X to stop interfering in British politics. Musk's comments on his social media platform X sparked outrage and protests in the UK. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Starmer said, "In the last few days, Musk has again tried to divide our politics by interfering in our politics. That is not what Britain is." X did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Starmer's comments.
What did Musk write?
Musk had posted on X about the murder, suggesting that British police were biased against white people. He also reshared posts by other users who had criticized the handling of the incident.
On Wednesday, he wrote, “Western society has created a very evil state religion that considers accusations of ‘race discrimination’ to be a more serious crime than rape or murder.”
But the British government and police have denied such allegations, claiming there is no racial bias in the police service.
Musk has previously criticized Starmer. In January 2025, he accused Starmer of failing to take effective action against a gang of child sex abusers, mostly men of South Asian descent, while he was Britain’s chief prosecutor from 2008 to 2013.
What is the murder?
Last year, 18-year-old Henry Novak was stabbed in Britain. He later died of serious injuries. He was found handcuffed by police after the incident.
His attacker falsely accused Novak of racially abusing him. A Sikh man was sentenced to prison on Monday for his murder.
Video footage released after the sentencing showed police ignoring the pleas of an innocent man on his deathbed. It has sparked widespread outrage and a political debate over police treatment of ethnic minorities.
Starmer said the police should face serious questions about their handling of the incident. But he condemned the violent and disorderly protests on Tuesday night, saying it was “unforgivable” to use death as a means to stoke tension and division.
