Eight people were killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. Three members of the same family (a father, son and daughter) were killed in the attack. Earlier on Monday, Israel had warned of an attack on the southern areas of Beirut. But US President Donald Trump had spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by telephone and pressured him to stop the attack. Trump then said on social media that there would be no attack on Beirut.

‘I had a very good and productive phone call with Netanyahu. No soldiers will be going to Beirut and those on the way have already started to return,’ Trump wrote on the social media site Truth Social. He also had indirect talks with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah through intermediaries. Netanyahu confirmed that he had spoken to Trump on this issue. However, Hezbollah said in a telephone conversation with Trump that it had warned of a more severe attack on Beirut if the attack did not stop.

Netanyahu also said that the Israeli army would continue its operation in southern Lebanon as planned. Hezbollah did not immediately respond to the issue. Talks between Lebanon and Israel have also been scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington. However, despite all these circumstances, Israel has not stopped its attacks and infiltrations into Lebanon.

On Tuesday, a large number of people left south Beirut at once, causing a long traffic jam on the road. Mohammad Farhat, 23, said that he had migrated from Haret Hrik to a neighboring village to the north with his brother and parents.

Nearly 1.2 million people have been displaced in the largest Israeli incursion in 26 years in Lebanon. More than 3,300 people have been killed in the Israeli offensive so far. On Sunday, Israeli forces captured Beaufort Castle. This is being opposed all over the world.

The World Food Program warned on Monday that the escalating Israeli offensive could worsen a humanitarian emergency in Lebanon. The United Nations said the situation was very dangerous.

“We are concerned about the increasing military activity in southern Lebanon and surrounding areas,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Monday. “We urge all parties to refrain from further fighting.” We urge you to abandon hostilities.'

On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron said that nothing can justify the high tensions in southern Lebanon. He demanded an immediate end to the war. Similarly, the foreign ministers of Britain and Germany also condemned the Israeli attack on Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry has called on the international community to prevent Israel from advancing into the interior of Lebanon.

Iran had warned that the negotiation process with the United States would be disrupted if the attack on Lebanon continued. Similarly, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned of a counterattack on Israel. Iranian state media reported that the Iranian delegation had boycotted a high-level meeting with the United States scheduled for Tuesday in protest of the Israeli attack on Lebanon. “The Iranian mediation team will suspend the dialogue and the exchange of letters through mediation will also be stopped,” Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.

Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pressure him to stop the attack on Lebanon after it appeared to affect peace talks with Iran.  US media reported that he used abusive language and insults against Netanyahu during the call.  Two US officials and a third source with knowledge of the call confirmed this, according to the US media outlet ‘Axios’.

‘Trump accused Netanyahu of trying to sabotage his ongoing talks with Iran by repeatedly attacking Lebanon.  After the phone call, Trump tweeted on Truth Social that talks with Iran were making rapid progress, Axios reported. During the call, Trump called Netanyahu a "crazy and reckless person," according to a source. He also put the brakes on Israel's plans to attack Beirut. Trump also claimed to have helped keep Netanyahu out of jail, citing his support for Netanyahu during his corruption trial, two sources told Axio. Another US official said Trump was also concerned about Israel's killing of civilians in Lebanon. He objected to the Israelis' use of destroying entire buildings in the name of killing a Hezbollah commander. Trump and Netanyahu have had tense phone conversations in the past. But they are working together on Iran and other issues. A US official said the phone call with Netanyahu was the most heated since Trump was elected president for a second term.

A US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah began on April 16, aiming to ease tensions. But neither side has adhered to the ceasefire.
