At least 10 people have been killed in Russian airstrikes across Ukraine. Six people were killed in Dnipro and four in the capital, Kyiv. It is one of the biggest attacks by Moscow in recent months. Dozens of people, including children, were injured after airstrikes on residential buildings overnight. Emergency services are searching for people trapped under rubble in Kyiv. An airstrike warning was issued for most of Ukraine early on Tuesday. Moscow warned of an attack on Ukraine last week. The warning came in response to a drone strike on a dormitory in the Russian-held Luhansk region last month that killed 21 people. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged people to take shelter. Smoke could be seen billowing from buildings in the city center. He urged citizens to be vigilant. “The intelligence agencies’ warnings about a Russian attack remain valid. They are preparing a major attack and it is possible. Therefore, I urge everyone to be vigilant,” Zelensky said in his nightly video address.
Last week, Russia said it would target military facilities in Kyiv. And it had urged foreign citizens to leave the city. Russia said it was in response to a deliberate attack by Ukraine on a dormitory in Starobilsk.
In a statement at the time, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces acknowledged that the attack took place near Starobilsk on the night of May 21-22. But it insisted that it had only targeted Russian military units, not the dormitory.
Kiev has called Russia's threats "brazen blackmail" and urged its allies to increase pressure on Moscow.
Russia has launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Kiev since a short-lived ceasefire expired in May. One of the strikes killed 24 people, including three children, in a residential building.
On the other hand, three people were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Moscow region. President Zelensky has called it a "just" response to the Russian attack.
