Iran and the US have engaged in a tit-for-tat exchange of fire as talks continue. The US military said on Monday that it had carried out attacks on Iranian military targets. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in response that it had targeted US bases. The US said the attacks targeted the city of Goruk and the Qasem Islands in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran did not name the location of the attack. However, Kuwait said that the missile and drone attacks were on its territory. US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran was eager for a deal. 'Iran wants to make a deal in the future, and it would be good for the US and our allies,' he wrote on the social network Truth Social. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also said that talks are underway with the US to end the war. Since the ceasefire between the two sides on April 8, Trump has repeatedly claimed that talks are underway to find a permanent solution to the war. However, no formal agreement has been reached between the two sides so far. Trump held long talks with his aides on Friday with the aim of extending the ceasefire and making a final decision on Iran.

However, this did not produce any clear conclusions either. According to CBS News, the two sides are currently in talks to extend the ceasefire for 60 days, open the Strait of Hormuz and create a new framework for reaching an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

Since the war began on February 28, the Strait of Hormuz, through which more than 20 percent of the world's crude oil and natural gas flows, has been blocked. This has led to a global fuel crisis and rising prices.
