India has said that ten Indian crew members who were arrested in Iran in July 2025 have been released after a long diplomatic effort.
According to India's Directorate General of Maritime Transport, the crew members of the MV Harbor Phoenix were arrested near the port of Jask in July 2025. They were then detained.
In a statement issued by the Directorate General, the crew members have now been released and are safe. It also said that necessary coordination is being made for their early return to India.
Iranian security agencies have been announcing that they regularly intercept ships involved in illegal fuel transportation in the Gulf region. In this context, it is speculated that the tanker may also have been under surveillance.
India had adopted a policy of low public comment, adopting a soft diplomacy for the release of the crew members. India has not officially given further details about why they were detained or what the specific reasons were related to the ship.
The MV Harbor Phoenix was listed as a Palau-flagged oil tanker, according to ship tracking sites.
