At least 90 people have died in a coal mine explosion in China, CCTV News reported. The explosion occurred at 7:29 a.m. local time on Friday at the Liushenyu coal mine in Changzhi city, north China's Shanxi province.
The state-run China Daily said 247 workers were working in the mine at the time. The government has successfully rescued 201 workers. The state-run Xinhua news agency said the level of carbon monoxide in the mine had "exceeded the prescribed limit". Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered "every effort" to rescue the missing. He also ordered "a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident and the perpetrators to be brought to justice in accordance with the law".
According to China's rescue agency, security forces have taken into custody the people responsible for the company involved in the explosion. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
