Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi accused the UAE of directly participating in military operations against his country at a meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS countries held in New Delhi on Thursday.
A day earlier, on Wednesday, Israel had claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had secretly visited the UAE while the war with Iran was going on.
The UAE, however, has already rejected Israel's claim. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi was in Delhi for the BRICS meeting while the explanation of the denial of the claim regarding the secret visit between Israel and the UAE was being discussed. At the meeting, Araghchi also warned that the UAE would be given a response for this collusion with Israel.
Both the UAE and Iran are members of the BRICS. The international news agency BBC reported that there was a disagreement between representatives of both countries at the meeting in New Delhi. Meanwhile, according to Iranian state media, Araghchi said in response to the UAE representative's comments on Thursday, 'I did not mention the UAE in my statement to maintain unity in BRICS. But the reality is that the UAE was involved in the war against Iran. When the attack on Iran began, the UAE did not even condemn it.'
The Iranian embassy in India has informed about the meeting on its official X account . The embassy said, 'During the second session of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Law and International Affairs Dr. Kazem Garibadi gave a strong response to the accusations of the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.'
Kazem Garibadi accused the UAE of playing a key role in supporting and facilitating the military attack against Iran. He said that this was also the reason for the increase in tensions. He has previously said, ‘The UAE has no moral or legal right to make political accusations or claims against Iran. We are a powerful and great country. We cannot stand by and watch as the aggressors target our people. Especially when one of our neighbors, the UAE, is involved in this.’
He has also said that they had no choice but to attack US military bases in the UAE. He has previously said, ‘This was a war, we defended our country there. The UAE is also an aggressor. You cannot hide by making false and baseless accusations. The UAE is responsible for fulfilling its responsibilities under international law.’
On February 28, the US-Israeli coalition launched an attack on Iran. The war lasted for several weeks. In response, Iran also launched missile and drone attacks on US military bases in the Gulf. A report published in the US newspaper Wall Street Journal on Monday claimed that the UAE launched a military campaign against Iran in early April.
According to Western and Iranian officials, Saudi Arabia also carried out several attacks against Iran. Which has not been made public. According to Iranian media, there is little possibility of issuing a joint statement due to the friction between Iran-UAE representatives at the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting held in India.
Amidst the tensions between Iran and the UAE, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach the UAE on Friday. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Friday. India had signed an agreement with the UAE last January.
Under this $3 billion deal, UAE's Adnoc gas will be supplied to India's state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation at a rate of 0.5 million tonnes per year from 2028.
Political analysts say that while the UAE has clearly refused to accept the visit, Israel's claim could further strain the UAE.
