Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The two leaders agreed to maintain a “creative strategic stable relationship” for the next three years and beyond, China’s Foreign Ministry said.

He said a new era of creative and stable relations had begun in US-China relations.

Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that Trump had praised Xi, repeatedly calling him a “great leader.” Trump also said the US had included prominent businessmen in its delegation, expressing respect for China and its leaders.

“They are ready to do business,” Xinhua quoted Trump as saying. “There are people here who say this could be the biggest ever.” It is an honor to be a friend of China, and China-US relations will be better than ever.'

The White House, the US presidential office, issued a statement saying it had a good conversation with President Xi.

'The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation, expand US trade in China, and increase Chinese investment in US industries,' the White House statement said. 'Both sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should be open and that energy supplies should be uninterrupted.'
